TaylorMade engineers took advantage of the lightweight carbon material by creating a 26 gram face, which is 40% lighter than a titanium face of equivalent size. Because of this weight saving the Stealth face can be made 11% larger than SIM2 and SIM2 Max drivers and nearly 20% larger than the 2020 SIM driver. Absolutely, the Stealth offered distance, accuracy and consistency. It’s the most excited I have been about a TaylorMade driver since I started testing with Golfalot and performance spoke for itself. If you are in the market for a new driver in 2022, this is a must try.

In many cases, there is no charge. Some manufacturers charge an upcharge for certain shafts or grips but there are many options that don't cost a penny more than the standard set. Do Custom Fit sets take longer to be delivered? The Taylormade Stealth Driver has dozens of benefits, but if it were the perfect golf club, everyone would have it.

I achieved good ball speeds, which is what TaylorMade claimed with Stealth. My fastest was 135.4mph with a swing speed of 91.4mph. My carry average was 210 yards and 4 yards greater than the Stealth Plus+ and total was 5 yards more at 240 yards. Two Decades in the Making: Twenty years of development by the TaylorMade R&D team marks the end of the titanium era. The sizeable difference between a TaylorMade Stealth driver and alternative products is its 60X carbon twist face. You’ll see that the engineers applied 60 carbon fiber layers to the clubface to enhance your feel and acoustics at impact. Robot’s take: Average ball speed increase of 2 mph across all nine points tested versus SIM2. One of the best distance balances on off-center hits on all of the models.

Do all golf clubs come with headcovers?

Carbon Twist Face: Sixty layers of carbon fibre have been strategically designed to optimise energy transfer to deliver fast ball speeds over a larger area, resulting in optimal distance and forgiveness. The Stealth is the outcome of genius engineering, designed to take drivers into a new age of production. I appreciate the exceptional forgiveness, consistency, and yardage it offers the average golfer. However, its premium price point will place it beyond reach for some. Lighter & Larger: The new face is 44% lighter than an equivalent titanium face while also being 11% larger than SIM2 and SIM2 Max drivers. TaylorMade is describing its latest driver as a 'carbonwood' but what does this mean? Carbon is both strong and lightweight - that's why many manufacturers have used it for many years on both the crown and sole of their drivers. In the Stealth, TaylorMade has introduced carbon fiber into the face for the first time. There are 60 layers, all with slightly different orientations to improve the strength it provides. The weight saved by using carbon can be placed elsewhere in the head to improve the overall performance. In addition, grooves and a polyurethane nanotexture have been added to the face to ensure it provides optimal spin performance in all weather conditions.

The driver is also designed with a 60x Carbon Twist Face, a large sweet spot, and a larger clubhead size, which all work together to give golfers a great feel and sound at impact. The Taylormade Stealth Driver is an impressive piece of golf equipment. It is designed to give golfers more control and accuracy off the tee and delivers on that promise. The Stealth range of drivers consists of three different models with each one offering distinctive characteristics, allowing golfers to choose the model best suited for their game. The TaylorMade Stealth driver is the model with the highest M.O.I out of the three and lends itself to use by the largest cross section of handicaps. The weight saving that has been created using carbon on the face, has allowed TaylorMade to add more weight to be positioned low and deep in the head producing 15% more M.O.I than the Stealth Plus model. The Stealth driver offers a mid-high launch with mid-low spin in a clubhead that is unbelievably forgiving. As we’ll discuss later, the weight and feel of this club may not be for everyone, but the ones who can utilize it love it! We’ve always found ways to move driver technology and face design forward,” says Tomo Bystedt, TaylorMade’s senior director of product creation. “But, like anything else, there’s an expiration on certain materials and technologies. What we learned is there wasn’t a dramatic improvement timeline for titanium. We could see that writing on the wall about three to four years ago.”

A titanium sole and internal sound ribs were also added to increase the “metallic” noise and feel at impact, thus eliminating the sound issues that plagued previous carbon faces. You’ll find all this and more in three Stealth driver options (Stealth, Stealth Plus, Stealth HD) and much of the same tech in a new lineup of fairways and hybrids (sans the carbon face). Custom wedges, putters and golf balls are everywhere you look. But what about custom drivers? In the last few years, major manufacturers have added a new level of customization to the longest club in the bag. For TaylorMade, that level of customization commenced last year with the introduction of MySIM2 — a program that allowed golfers to personalize every aspect of the driver, down to the face tuning pins. But out on the golf course was where I was really impressed. I hit the ball off the tee better than I have all winter, I never missed a shot with the Stealth, maybe the bigger face has come into its own here? In addition, I noticed that the Carbon fiber face helped me produce sufficient friction to get my ball airborne. However, the ball did not stay on the clubface for longer than necessary. Thanks to its flexible face, it generated ample ball speed because of the flexibility of the active zone. Furthermore, the asymmetric inertia generator allowed the engineers to place a weight on the rear of the driver’s clubhead. You’ll find that this increases the offset of the driver and its moment of inertia (MOI) to encourage straighter shots.

In July 2023, Neil became just the 9th editor in Golf Monthly's 112-year history. Originally working with the best coaches in the UK to produce instruction content, he has also presented many Golf Monthly videos looking at all areas of the game from Tour player interviews to the rules of golf.

The final downside of the Stealth is the shaft options for slower swingers. Only the Ventus Red 5 is offered in a senior flex. The remaining options are geared toward moderate and high swing speeds. The clubhead’s larger size provides increased forgiveness on off-center shots, and the lightweight Carbonwood provides increased distance and accuracy. In my experience, the Stealth provided ample forgiveness ranging from accuracy, ball speed, and distance. Firstly, the high-MOI design of the clubface keeps it square to deliver direct flight for improved accuracy. In addition, an enlarged sweet spot maintains the ball’s pace and lowers spin for increased length. Carbon wood is an alternative to titanium, used for some Taylormade golf clubs. The Taylormade brand has invested heavily in this carbon-based material, primarily because of how light it makes their clubs ( forty percent lighter than your traditional club!).
