Norma is reluctant to try to leave the shows, as she prefers being with the Pauline as a character she loved instead of what she is in real life. It also let the wrestling plot in the show be more about Barney being comfortable in his own skin than just a method of him earning money like it is in this book. Temeluchus convinces Pugsley to give him full control so he can protect Norma, but Temeluchus instead continues his goal of conquering the world.

In a musical episode caused by a spell from Pugsley, Pauline organizes an audition to find an impersonator for her to possess. Norma uses Pugsley's powers to transform herself into a perfect replica of Pauline, and Pauline chooses her to be her new vessel. I wanted the cast to reflect my friend group and it was sort of a no brainer that this character was trans. So he takes up his best friend's offer and becomes the janitor of a haunted house attraction at Winslow's Wonderland. The main characters' arcs are self-contained (given where everyone ended up at the end of Volume 1) but they mirror each other nicely and continue the growth of these characters. Deadendia” by Hamish Steele is a comic about bumbling, kindhearted Barney and his pragmatic, sharp-witted friend Norma. After walking to the haunted house and entering, they meet Courtney, a demon who disguises herself as part of the attraction. On the other side of town, down and out Barney is approached by a demon and offered an ungodly sum of money to be the first human to compete in the Demon Wrestling Federation.

Seeing Courtney's arc tied so closely to Norma's was great as they've always had an entertaining friendship and this added a whole new layer to it! On the same day, Norma Khan is also starting her new job at Phoenix Parks as part of the security team. Barney must find something to do so he's not such a layabout - demon wrestling being the natural option.
