You can find me there, or in a onesie with a flask of spiked hot chocolate trying to warm up! What are you working on now? Before I conclude this review, I thought I’d say something about the woman in the wood – easily my favourite character! That’s all you’re getting on that! The Old Woman in the Wood" ( German: Die Alte im Wald) is a German fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm, tale number 123. It is Aarne-Thompson type 442. A classy thriller that’s stylish, twisty and full of suspense’ Sarah Pinborough, No. 1 bestselling author of Behind Her Eyes The Woman in the Woods takes the storyline of a compelling domestic thriller, fills it with psychological elements, mixes in some witchcraft and ghosts, then wraps it all up in the honest-to-god most haunted town in England. Ingredients that add up to one hell of a ride.

In the beautiful Maine woods, a partly preserved body is discovered. Investigators realize that the young woman gave birth shortly before her death. But there is no sign of a baby. Such a different one from Lisa Hall and I loved it! Spooky and hook-y … Highly recommend. You’re all in for a treat this autumn’ Louise Beech, author of This is How We Are HumanThe discovery of the body moves lawyer Moxie Castin to an act of decency...hiring Charlie Parker to discover who this woman was, and to find her child.
I was eagerly awaiting this latest release, her 25th book and was delighted to receive an early copy so I started it straight away. Enjoyed this with some Irish pancakes on Shrove Tuesday and it was all the topping and filing I needed! More than forty years later and Lesley is now a writer who is practically a recluse. She lives with her dog and barely has any human interaction, but with a book to sell and money being rather tight, she agrees to give a talk at the local library. I couldn’t put it down and I couldn’t read it fast enough’ Helen Phifer, author of The Hiding Place
An unpredictable thriller that delivers on all counts, The Woman in the Woods is classic J A Baker. What an amazing author she is! The way she builds a story, laying all the of foundations, bit by bit, increasing the tension, mystery, emotion, all of these threads waving about and then weaving themselves together with precision. Combined with excellent character development, she really is a master story teller and her popularity comes as no great surprise to me at all.
