Yes it is possible that some wordings present in other than the al-Sahliyyah edition might be preferred to it due to their common usage or due to another reason. Manuscript of the Dala'il al-khayrat of al-Jazuli (Devotional Manual) | LACMA Collections". collections.lacma.org . Retrieved 2021-08-11. The Masjid al-Haram at Mecca and the Prophet's Mosque at Medina". Khalili Collections . Retrieved 2020-11-28. The needy one Yusuf al-Nabhani, Allah forgive him, his parents and all those who pray for their forgiveness says: It is evident to me that Imam al-Jazuli (Allah be pleased with him) after his authoring the Dala’il al-Khayrat continued to review it. Each time it became clear to him that a word should be changed to another word he would do so, and this would be narrated from him by his students despite the earlier editions having spread with the earlier wording, and so on and so forth up to the time of his death (Allah be pleased with him).

Laila Abdel Ghany explores the history behind the Dala’il al-Khayrat, and why it had such a massive impact on Islamic history. Khtam in Honour of the Shaykh who authored the Book this is a lso a request from the author too as the end of se ction 8.

The Story of Dalail al-Khayrat

Historically in both the Haramain, in the Haram al-Makki and the Haram al-Madini, after Asr on a daily basis, both in Mecca and Madina with particular attention in the city of the beloved Messenger ﷺ, in Madina al-Munawwara, after Asr daily there would be a gathering of Dalail al-Khayrat. And these gatherings lasted for hundreds of years. For over 300 years. And there would be a Shaykh appointed for this gathering would be known as the Shaykh al-Dalail and this continued generation after generation. Reliance has formed upon the al-Sahliyyah edition more than others due to it being the edition of one of the most preeminent students of the author, Sayyidi Muhammad al-Sahli al-Sughayyar. Upon it is found the handwriting of the author himself, and it was written a short period before the passing away of the author. He revealed that he was the ‘Renewer of his era’ (Mujaddid) and he opposed the methods of the scholars, who themselves were corrupt and averse to spiritual refinement, causing the people to go astray. He later moved to a place called Afughal, south of Essaouira. Fearing the imam’s growing influence and following his criticism of the local authorities for taking money from the Portuguese, the governor of Asafi asked him to leave the city. Imam al-Jazuli prayed against the people of Asafi, and after two years, the Portuguese conquered the city and expelled the local population. Seeing the error of their ways, the people of Asafi approached the imam, hoping for his pardon. He told them they would be forgiven after 40 years. In the year 984/1576, 40 years later, the Muslims retook Asafi.

The legend behind the origin of the Dala’il al-Khayrat is that al-Jazuli once awoke late for his morning prayers and began to look in vain for pure water to perform ritual ablutions. In the midst of his search al-Jazuli encountered a young girl who was aware of al-Jazuli's famed religiosity and was bewildered on why al-Jazuli could not find pure water. The girl then spat into a well which miraculously overflowed with pure sweet water for al-Jazuli to perform ablutions. Consequent to performing prayer, al-Jazuli inquired to the means by which the girl achieved such a high spiritual station. The girl replied it was simply by "Making constant prayer for God to bless the best of creation by the number of breaths and heartbeats." Al-Jazuli then resolved to write a work collecting litanies of prayers asking God to bless and show mercy and kindness to Muhammad. Dalail al-Khairat is a famous collection of prayers for the Islamic prophet Muhammad, which was written by the Moroccan Sufi and Islamic scholar Muhammad Sulaiman al-Jazuli ash Shadhili (died 1465). It is popular in parts of the Islamic world amongst traditional Muslims - specifically North Africa, the Levant, Turkey, the Caucasus and the South Asia and is divided into sections for daily recitation. The full English translation of the title is (Way-marks of Benefits and the Brilliant Burst of Lights in the Remembrance of Blessings on the Chosen Prophet). The great righteous and the great scholars and the Imams of hadith and across the Islamic Sciences were extremely creative and variegated in the many ways in which they strived to their utmost to express the meanings of sending blessings upon the our noble and exalted Messenger ﷺ.The Dalail Al Khayrat (also known as Dalailul Khairat | delailul hayrat | Delail-ül Hayrat | دلائل الخيرات) is a compilation of salawat, i.e. prayers on the Prophet. The extended title of the book is Dalail Al Khairat wa Shawariq Al-Anwar fi Dhikr al-Salat 'ala al-Nabi al-Mukhtar (One who guides to goodness and the emergence of blazing lights, because he incites to pray on the chosen Prophet). The virtue of practicing the Dalailul Khairat which is very well-known among the wirid practitioners is the speed at which the wishes of the readers are fulfilled. Whenever you want something, it's easy to have that wish come true. But even so, the Dalailul Khairat practitioners in reading this wirid should aim purely to draw closer to Allah (Taqarrub ila Allah) without expecting any worldly strings attached. Thus, there is a sense of sincerity in practicing it. Wallahu a'lam. Sheikh Muhammad bin Sulaiman al-Jazuli (W. 872 H) was the author of the Dalailul Khairat wirid. He is a Moroccan scholar, the wirid Dalailul Khairat was composed by him during his journey of knowledge in the City of Fez. He once isolated himself for worship (Khalwat) for 14 years, after which he focused on educating his students. There are so many people who repent at his hands, so that he is known as a scholar who is famous for his charisma. He also has many followers spread all over Morocco. Although there are numerous blessing and benefits of reciting salawat, the most dear to any believing man or woman is stated in a hadith narrated by Abdullah bin Masud رضي الله عنه that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: The closest of people to me on the Day of Resurrection will be those who send the most blessings on me.

The severed one is he who travels the path of discipline but does not attain the path of witnessing, when he goes to the people and calls them to Allah, then his propagation only remains at the level of discipline. This is because he has not arrived at the level of witnessing. The one who is fully accomplished is he who has arrived at the level of witnessing and he is intoxicated in the lights of perfection, and nothing distracts him from the True King. When he goes to the people, he goes to them with lights, knowledge and wisdom. One who adheres to him learns and becomes illuminated, and his level of comprehension is unlike those who follow the severed ones.Imam al-Jazuli became known throughout the entire country. Many people repented and turned to Allah under his spiritual guidance. Before his death he left many of his students qualified to guide others. One of his foremost followers was Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Abd al-Aziz ibn Abd al-Haqq, who is said to have encompassed the secrets of ultimate reality. Some sources say he had a total of over 12,000 students with others putting that figure over 20,000. Sayings If you have understood this then know that I, even though I prefer like others the al-Sahliyyah edition against which I corrected my copy, I do not say: All other than it, from the editions upon which the commentator al-Fasi and others relied upon as being accurate, are not to be given attention if they differ with the al-Sahliyyah in some wording…Rather I say: It is possible for there to be a number of accurate editions, all of them being written by the author. Their differences being in terms of addition or subtraction…or his preferring a wording over another. They are all, if they are in agreement with the Arabic language, relied upon. Also if the wording in the Salat is transmitted from the Prophet ﷺ or some of the elders, then it is possible that this wording has a number of transmissions which the author used at times, then another transmission was preferred by him. All of them are correct and the reciter will be rewarded in any case. Many of exegesis were written on the Dala'il Khayrat - most notably by the scholar Yusuf an-Nabhani in his work Afdal al-Salawat, Mohammed al-Mahdi al-Fasi's Matali‘ Al Masarrat Bi Jalaa’ Dala’il Al Khayrat (مطالع المسرات بجلاء دلائل الخيرات) and Abd al-Majid al-Sharnubi al-Azhari's Sharh Dala'il Khayrat. A classic Ottoman era work by Kara Davud is popular in Turkish, titled Tevfîk-i Muvaffık il-Hayrât li-Neyl'il-berekât fî Hidmet-i Menbâ'üs-sa'adât ( Ottoman Turkish: توفیق موفق الحیرات لنیل البركات فی خدمة منباع السعادات), [3] in short known as "Kara Davud". Muhammad ibn Sulayman al-Jazuli, the perfected Axial Saint of the 15th century (9 th century Hijri) was a man of spiritual states and divine inspiration. His full name was Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Sulayman al-Jazuli al-Simlali al-Hasani. He was renowned for his prophetic character and his tremendous proximity to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He was descendant of the Prophet ﷺ through his noble grandson Imam Hasan I. There are also those who are given a diploma reading dalail accompanied by reading the Qur'an which must be completed for a certain period, such as one month or 41 days depending on the provisions of the mujiz. Practices like this are usually called the Dalail Qur'an. As well as various other different kinds of amaliyah according to the recommendations of mujiz. This is none other than to make the practice of Dalailul Khairat's wirid more perfect.
