In theory this should mean that the X-T30 II is a little more adept at acquiring focus in very low lighting, and that seems to be borne out well in practice – during our testing, it did a good job of picking out fine details even when light was pretty limited.

Again, we’ll go into this in more detail below, but the main bad news is the lack of in-body stabilization, a little bit of awkwardness when it comes to button placement, the screen only tilting (not ideal for selfies and vlogging), and of course the fact that it’s such an incremental upgrade over its predecessor that you might be better off just sticking with that camera.Every sample is different, but my sample lost 5 seconds per month (164ms/day) when new, and lost about 5 minutes in the year between April 2022 and April 2023. Strap lugs, top left cover, advance mode dial, shutter speed dial, power switch, shutter release button, exposure compensation dial, right top cover, lens mount, LCD panel flip linkage, camera bottom cover and tripod socket. This is how I chose to use the camera, and it might differ somewhat from what you plan on using it for. Hopefully this will be useful to some of you, as I suspect there are others with a similar point-of-view as myself. To get a great 2-axis level display you first assign this to your choice of button (MENU > WRENCH > BUTTON/DIAL SETTING > FUNCTION (Fn) SETTING > Fn 1 > ELECTRONIC LEVEL) and then pressing that button to see it.

For example, at +1, it’s noticeable to my eyes that the X-T30 is applying a slightly stronger amount of sharpening to the file than the X-T20, yet without negative consequence. It's safe to say that Fujifilm hasn’t done much more than tweak the original X-T30 for the Mark II iteration, although that’s not necessarily a bad thing when you’re working with some pretty impressive features in the first place. It seems like, if you use ISO 800 or less, set Sharpness to +4, set Noise Reduction to -4, use a sharp prime lens and don’t crop, the sky is the limit for printing sizes. This means the camera delivers high-resolution footage with relatively low noise and stunning sharpness. We wouldn't recommend it for astro shooting as it does struggle somewhat in low light, and unless you memorize which dial is which, they are impossible to see in the dark. If you have the camera set in one of many ways in which flash won't fire (like Silent Shutter), the flash option simply disappears and makes you have to guess what to do to get flash going — and this goes on and on. But that’s not to say you don’t get some excellent specs for your cash – and indeed in many ways it’s a very similar camera to the superb Fujifilm X-S10. Autorotate Playback" (MENU > WRENCH > SCREEN SET-UP (page 2/3) > AUTOROTATE PB) isn’t; it just rotates vertical shots that then take up only half of the screen. Offering the same sensor and the same AF system in a bigger body, the X-S10 adds in-body image stabilization and the option to flip the screen to face forwards.
