So where should I look for Pentax perfection? What I really wanted was a manual-focus SLR camera as small and light as the MX and MG, with the automation of the KR-10 and the manual operation and match-needle meter of my KX. Pentax never made that exact camera, but the ME Super seemed like it might come close.

So I use the ME-Super only for photography in dark light when I use to have the apperture wide open. At night I don´t need a stop-down button. But I need a bright control-interface in the viewfinder. The LED-Interface of the ME-Super is perfect. It shows everything that I need and nothing more. Not the best option, the SMC Pentax-M 28mm f/2.8, is still a good choice. The truth is, many people might not actually consider it a wide angle lens. However, it is substantially less expensive than any wider option. This camera has the perfect weight. Doesn't bother me when it's dangling from my shoulder & is nice and stable when shooting. I normally only take the 28mm (f 3.5 K version - yes!) and just leave it on the body. Shooting makes a lot less noise than with my old friend, the KX. The ME definitely is more suitable for street photography. The front flower is fully in focus, the rear flower is starting to snap in as well. Subject separation is good. Bokeh has become more hexagonal.

The ME Super’s Electrical fault is a big problem because the shutter and mirror are electric which means the whole camera can become useless with one fault. This fault seems to be characterised by not shooting when you press the shooting button, sometimes the camera does shoot and then the winder won’t catch over and over again. It renders it useless and it’s not easy to fix, this is why i suggest spending a little more on your camera to ensure that you save yourself the hassle. My name is Dan Marinelli. I am from San Diego, CA... where I work as a registered nurse and if I'm not working I'm either surfing, climbing/hiking or reading a book.…A great way to understand how good the Pentax ME Super is is to compare it to another Pentax Titan, the K1000. The K1000 being a cult classic SLR, it’s hard to overstate how brilliant the K1000 still is. Shooting the LX in manual mode is much nicer than shooting my MX in manual mode. For two reasons – 1. the shutter speed dial is much nicer to turn than the stiff knob on the MX. And b. – the exposure information in the VF is much handier and easier to read. So you can think of the LX as a super MX that happens to have an AE setting! Let me add two of my favourite ME (Super) features. One is the superb loading system: a bundle of white, flexible rods on the take up spoil grabs the film leader first time, every time.

The Lomography Atoll 17mm f/2.8 M-mount lens: Get close to your subject. No, closer. No, really, get a bit closer… So if you’re looking for a truly capable, beautiful, and easy-to-use 35mm film SLR the ME may be a good fit. Buy it for cheap, get some K-mount lenses, and get shooting. The ME combined with some SMC glass will instantly elevate your photography without weighing you down, and it’ll look good doing it. And, hey, if you ever outgrow it you’ll have a stellar collection of lenses to fit your next, more serious, Pentax SLR. That’s a win-win. I went through two copies of the SMC-M 50/1.4 and even had one CLA’d before deciding that, for the cost and size/weight, it doesn’t perform very well in terms of wide open sharpness, compared to the SMC-M 50/1.7 which I’ve always been happy with. Bokeh may be more interesting with the 1.4 though, I’ll give you that. It seems there is maybe some sample variation with the 50/1.4’s as I never found stopping down to make it a mor I really like the viewfinder on this camera. The split prism makes it so easy to get things in focus and the displays help me nail the exposure every time. I’ve also found that the pair of buttons used for adjusting exposure time is much easier to use compared to a dial. On my other film SLRs equipped with dials, I usually have to pull the camera away from my face to do this. With the Pentax Super Program, it’s only a few taps away, no need to recompose or miss a shot. The shot taken with the 50mm f/1.7 is underexposed and by at least a stop or three. How does something like that happen? The camera settings didn’t change…I am guessing it has something to do with the aperture blades not opening/ closing properly resulting in the underexposure…or possibly the electronic shutter on the ME Super was no bueno???With a heavy fog last night into early this morning it was impossible to view or shoot the Great Conjunction. I was hoping to sneak out from self quarantine to photograph such an awesome event, but like the Geminids meteor shower, conditions were just poor.

However, I shot a test roll and the camera behaved correctly, all 38 exposures came out as they should, I used the A 50mm f1.4 and here there are my impressions: There are plenty of wider Pentax focal lengths to select from, but they’re frequently significantly higher priced or third-party options have visible amounts of barrel distortion. Also, it is easy to see chromatic aberrations and other optical flaws in third-party lenses. More OptionsThe Super A is slightly higher than the ME Super & MX and has a removable front grip, so I find it easier to hold. The Super A is still not as comfortable to hold as my K Series or LX bodies, but much better than my MX. The Super A still has enough metal in it to make it a durable non plastic camera. Hi SROYON, in your test I couldn't understand some things. I was able to understand the test for whites, but…
