Technically the travel case supplied with the 9000 or Genius X is the same. However, the colours are slightly different. If you're not sure whether to invest in a 'smart' toothbrush, the Oral-B Genius X works well either with or without its app (Image credit: Future)

Oral-B Genius X vs. 8000 vs. 9000 vs. 10000 | Differences Oral-B Genius X vs. 8000 vs. 9000 vs. 10000 | Differences

From a design and technological point of view, the iO is considerably better and more user friendly than the Genius 9000. With the right technique either will leave your teeth feeling fantastically clean and your gums healthier in a short space of time. It is still of a primarily plastic construction but there is a certain sleekness to the handle as there are smoother lines and less interruptions to the handle, which give it this look. As part of our testing process, it is necessary to simulate battery use for consistency. We do this by charging the brush fully and running the toothbrush through brushing cycles until it discharges completely. This was really useful, thank you for the video. I went down a bit of a rabbit hole trying to compare all the types, particularly these two. So thanks for doing such a thorough comparison! Reply

The Oral-B Pro Genius 8000 falls behind with five cleaning modes: Daily Clean, Professional Clean, Sensitive, Whitening, and Gum Care. As a result of the Genius 9000 requiring the holder for your smartphone, one of these comes supplied in the box. This is not the case with the Genius X. Very useful, thanks! The easier setup for the X seems like it could be the deciding factor for me. I’d never use something too fiddly. My old brush also works fine, of course, but with hopeless battery life so hoping this will be better! Reply This is perfect for those occasions where you are perhaps away from the office on business or on holiday. It is also worth noting that the Oral-B Genius 9900 Electric Toothbrush comes with a travel holder. It is the little thoughtful things which make an electric toothbrush just that little bit more special that little bit more useful. Replacement brush heads

Oral-B Genius X vs Genius 9000 - Electric Teeth Oral-B Genius X vs Genius 9000 - Electric Teeth

Up to 7 cleaning modes (subject to variant) are available on the iO (daily clean, gum care, sensitive, super sensitive, whitening, intense & tongue clean) compared to the 6 on the Genius (daily clean, gum care, sensitive, whitening, pro clean & tongue clean). And rather oddly, the iO’s case holds the handle and 1 brush head when every other Oral-B travel case, the Genius 9000 included holds the handle and 2 heads. Priced over 3 years, the Genius 9000 will cost around 16p per day to own compared to the 33p of the iO.The Oral-B Pro Genius X, Genius 9000 and Genius 1000 offer up to six different brushing modes: Daily Clean, Professional Clean, Sensitive, Whitening, Gum Care and Tongue Clean. The amount of time it takes someone to get 100% will vary. Some might take 2 and a half minutes and someone else might take 3 and a half. These variances are hard to account for. Admittedly it can be very difficult to achieve 100% in 2 minutes. Those who have yet to sample the delights of an electric toothbrush often have a misunderstanding of the recharging process. With the Oral-B Genius 9900 Electric Toothbrush it takes a maximum two hours to recharge fully. This charge will be enough to last 14 days with the average two minute plus brushing time. Obviously, the Oral-B Genius 9900 Electric Toothbrush comes with a very safe and secure charging base. Simply place your electric toothbrush in the holder, switch on the charger and leave it. When using the Genius 9000, you have to mount your smartphone in the supplied smartphone suction cup mount. You then open the app, align yourself with the camera and it watches you as you brush. Where brush heads have been interchangeable across Oral-B’s range of handles, this is not the case with the Genius 9000 and iO. You can’t fit an iO brush head to the Genius 9000 and vice versa. The design has changed in such a way that the iO can only use heads designed specifically for this model.

In this comparison we are going to talk about the Oral-B Genius X, the Oral-B Genius 8000, the Oral-B Genius 9000 and the Oral-B Genius 10000. All sophisticated models in which you have to pay attention to every detail to find their differences and thus find out which one you need. The Genius X comes with 1 or 4 brush heads (subject to variant) compared to the 4 brush heads supplied with the Genius 9000. Whilst it is fair to assume everyone wants to get 100%, not everyone will be making sure they do this every time. Some will not be using the app all the time and some will get to say 85-90% by 2 minutes and deem that enough. The Oral-B Genius X has a less sophisticated pressure sensor than the iO Series 9. The Genius X will only alert you if you're not pressing hard enough (which takes quite a lot of force), whereas the iO Series 9 will also let you know if you're not applying enough pressure. If your dentist has advised you that you have a tendency to be heavy-handed then this (combined with the rather vigorous brushing action) might make a higher-end brush like the iO Series 9 or Philips Sonicare Prestige 9900 a better choice. However, whilst the differences exist, determining that one brush is really any better than the other is very difficult. Even under strict clinical conditions the results in favour of the iO are not likely to be that significant.

Are electric toothbrushes eco-friendly and can they be recycled?

Holding your phone whilst you hold the toothbrush in the other is not a make or break issue, but just something to be aware of. The truth is, if one of the best Oral-B brushes happens to come to our minds, it doesn’t make much sense for us to stay with an immediately inferior one, no matter how spectacular it may be. Indeed, the Genius 8000 offers a little less than the rest of the brushes in the series. Don’t forget to keep this in mind when looking at prices. SmartRing: useful personalization Having handled & tested hundreds of products there really is very little he does not know about them. The 9000 has 4 brush heads included in the box. These are either 4 x CrossAction heads or more commonly a mix of brush head styles, 2 x CrossAction, 1 x 3D White & 1 x Sensi UltraThin.

Existing Genius 9000 owners have no need to upgrade or replace their brush with the Genius X 20,000. There is no significant value in doing so from my point of view..On the rose gold luxe variant, the case is white, but the pattern is predominantly silver with a few gold accents. In effect you will be presented with what looks like a heat map of your teeth. This will highlight areas where you have had limited brushing success. There is no excuse for not being able to reach those for fetched areas of your mouth. There is no reason why any of your teeth surfaces should go uncleaned. We can only imagine the huge buildup of plaque from years gone by. Very soon this will be a distant memory. Six brushing modes The Genius 9000 travel case holds a handle and 2 brush heads compared to the iO’s power2go case that holds the handle and 1 brush head. (No power2go feature in the case with series 7 & 8 – but holds 2 brush heads)
