There are similarities between the Game Gear and the Master System hardware, but the games are not directly compatible; Master System games are only playable on Game Gear using the Master Gear Converter accessory. A Japanese version of the Master System was also launched in 1987, which features a few enhancements over the export models (and by proxy the original Mark III): a built-in FM audio chip, a rapid-fire switch, and a dedicated port for the 3D glasses.

The Mega Drive version scrolls smoothly, it has a bucket load of on screen sprites and the backgrounds are visually detailed.

However, electronics like the VDP usually do not have enough power to drive that; without amplification, you see what’s above. The Master System has an introduction screen which appears each time the system is turned on (with or without a game inserted).

I took a quick screenshot and confirmed that this does work for me, though I had to increase it a notable bit for the picture to be stable, and I’m not sure what impact this might have on other consoles. I remember playing this game on my friends Mega Drive, on 2 player mode and falling in love with it’s simple but effective gameplay. Several Master System games were released for download on Nintendo's Wii Virtual Console, beginning with Fist of the North Star in 2008 in Japan and Wonder Boy in North America. It was distributed by Mastertronic in the United Kingdom, Master Games in France, and Ariolasoft in West Germany, [38] though Ariolasoft initially purchased the distribution rights for the United Kingdom. In France, the original Master System (and the SMS II, which had the A/V port instead of RF jack) were sold with an RGB lead (model 3085).This combination of an 8-bit CPU with a 16-bit graphics processor was a precursor to the PC Engine ( TurboGrafx-16), a more powerful console that released in 1987 and began the 16-bit era, leading to the creation of the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis). Not only did it get rid of the reset button and the card slot, it also got rid of the AV output the Master System featured.

This includes Sonic Chaos which was an awesome sonic release and probably a bit of an apology for the lack lustre master system release of sonic 2. The second meant France had to be catered to anyway, and the first meant that the French video industry was more used to working across video standards. These young people deserve a space which is engaging and inspiring, where they can feel a sense of adventure, exploration and surprise!For every new game which arrived, I held out absolute hope that there would be a Master System version… and when there was, boy did I compare it to the 16 bit version. In South Korea, the Sega Mark III was released by Samsung under the name "Gam*Boy" in April 1989 and then the Master System II was released under the name "Aladdin Boy" in 1992. The Master System II, a cheaper model, was released in 1990 in North America, Australasia and Europe.
