Karen Barbour's illustrations are gorgeous - they are colorful and bold - giving life to Lester's complicated message. The killing of George Floyd last year triggered a national conversation about race and racism in Britain. Let's Talk about Race is the third segment under the Full Stop campaign to end all forms of Bullying, Harassment and Sexual Misconduct at UCL for staff and students. Marking 70 years since the arrival of the Empire Windrush - Dr Nando Sigona and April-Louise Pennant, discuss what lessons the windrush arrival and scandal can teach us about British identity.

Every year we’ve learned, reflected, and refined the program content – always growing and striving to do better. Julius Lester has written a very powerful book that is meant to get children thinking about the topic of race and prejudice. UCL’s Let’s talk about Race campaign focuses on race education, increasing reporting of racial harassment and developing anti-racist approaches to change. Brookline Booksmith will host a Zoom launch event for “Let’s Talk Race” on Wednesday, April 14, at 7 p. Julius Lester does a great job presenting the idea of race and how sometimes people form opinions about others before getting to know them.

A sensitive and mature approach to discussing racism strengthens organisational culture and makes an organisation better prepared to handle racist incidents if or when they happen. The book Let's Talk about Race by Julius Lester is a picture, biography, and fiction book about people disliking people based on race.

Following the brutal killing of George Floyd by ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, we have been left wondering about the best way to help. The author explains that we are all the same under our skin so we really have no reason to judge anyone based on skin color. After hearing this book repeatedly recommended for engaging children in antiracist conversations, I had pretty high hopes, and I already enjoyed some of Lester's previous work. Julius Lester never follows the beaten trail in his writings; he always challenges and pushes us forward into new experiences, like those in this book. Professors Fine and Johnson draw upon their own insight born from decades of conversations and encourage readers to begin talking about race. Black, Biracial, Indigenous and people of colour have been aware of the urgency of action and creating equity and inclusion as well as giving diversity a voice for centuries and generations – not just since May 2020 with the death of George Floyd – which was not a moment in time but a critical tipping point in human consciousness. Throughout, Bratt provides texts, thorough reference lists, and myriad resources for librarians and educators seeking to not only provide more inclusion in their work but to encourage parents to do the same at home.
