One of my television songs, A SQUASH AND A SQUEEZE, was made into a book in 1993, with illustrations by the wonderful Axel Scheffler. Written as an interactive guessing game, with eye-catching artwork and an exotic array of animals to marvel over, this is a gorgeous book to treasure - can you guess who has more legs than a butterfly?My only wish would be that it the story had been a little simpler, and not tried to connect each animal to the next. Every page draws you further into the beautifully vibrant animal kingdom with flying bats, frolicking fox cubs and jumping Arctic hares, inviting you to compare the animals to each other, explore their habitats, and learn proper animal baby names for each creature as you count. King-Chai’s illustrations are enchanting with great splashes of colour with the scenes perfectly matching the animals depicted with forest scenes, water scenes and desert scenes.
