I find the lidil battery charges very slow to fully charge a battery and if it is very flat find mine cant work out what to do. I have to use and old fashioned battery charger for a couple of hours then switch to the lidil one. Your car probably has a stop start battery, these are constructed differently to normal batteries, I'm on my second car now with these new type batteries, and according to my dealer require a special expensive charger to fully charge them, how true that is I'm not sure, but I do know the dealer charger charges at around 17 volts. as for a battery lasting 3 years. .. I'd be very disappointed to only get 3 years from a battery. never had one last such a short time The CTEK smart chargers always had conditioning modes - the Aldi/Lidl smart chargers also have that mode.

A clone of the Swedish C-Tek for a quarter of the price. Anyone who has bought one of these will tell you how versatile it is. It is a fully 'intelligent' charger - 6v and 12v, it will safely charge a completely dead battery and also has a desulphation mode that justifies the price of the unit alone.Don't overlook that some caravan builders do though install "smart" chargers, in my case a Schaudt unit. My Lidl charger is a couple of years old (grey top, blue base) and it only has motorbike, car and winter modes. I was a very early fan of the smart chargers, using a Gunson transformer-type, as the full-time power supply for the 12v battery in our original Ace which had no 240V mains as standard, from '82-01 a period of 17 years allowing a car battery to function as a leisure battery and still get 10+ years life from the two batteries used. Most car batteries are only good for 3 years from new, and in stop/start cars many need to be replaced at 5 years regardless of performance.

The optimum charging cauurent for a battery is around 10% of it's capacity which should therefore get it up to around 80% charge in about 8-10 hours from flat. The last 20% takes a lot longer, possibly another 8-10 hours mainly because the charging current tails off as the charger is voltage limited and frequently switches down to around 13. 8 volts when the charging current drops below a certain level. Some chargers will hold the higher 14. 4 volts for a timed period after the threshold to try and get the last bit in a bit faster - ideally you need to monitor both voltage & current to establish what is going on.Take the car to a good local auto electrician who can do a FOC "drop-test" on the battery to determine it's condition." AGM batteries are often specified on cars with stop/start - the Aldi/Lidl and CTEK chargers handle AGM by using the "cold" 14. 7v setting. A modern Aldi/Lidl smart charger, with 3. 6-4. 0 Ah rating should be capable of recharging from absolutely flat to 90+% fully charged in around 24 hours but may take another 24 hours of float charging to show 4 LEDS - at 12. 3v the OP's battery should have got to 90+% in around 15 hours.

The instructions state there is a low voltage cut out so it won't charge a completely flat battery as the battery could possibly be damaged. Very happy with the CTEK and even though it cost more, it has a 5 year guarantee. It looks similar to the LIDL one but actually works, which is nice. Also says you can connect it while the battery is connected to the car. The LIDL manual says you have to disconnect the car terminals which can be problematic if you don't know your radio code. Ultimate Speed - Intelligent Battery Charger review - Club

There is one more useful feature on this charger. It claims to revive empty, discharged and overcharged batteries. This is by 'pulse charging'. The charger automatically recognises the state of the battery it's connected to and pulse charges if required. This continues until the battery reaches a stage where conventional charging takes over. The charger will only start when the charging process has been selected. There are 4 Modes, the first is for 6v batteries, Mode 2 is for small 12v wet batteries, Mode 3 is for larger 12v wet batteries and Mode 4 is for AGMs. Whichever is selected will result in a red light to confirm the selection in the top row of lights and a red light in the lower row to show that charging is taking place. Rang my local Aldi - they had one left and have put it aside for me. Happy days! Was seconds away from forking out 40 notes for the CTEK.Bexhill? They had about twenty on Sunday. Can't fault our aldi chargers for use on van or car. Kept my neighbours car battery charged every day while he was waiting for a new alternator recently. The important plus point for me is that this charger claims to work on various battery types including AGMs which are what I have for leisure batteries. This review is not meant as a technical lesson into battery technology but I have become aware that different battery types require different charging processes. The onboard charger on my motorhome (and very many others) does not specifically cater for AGMs - there are just switchable settings between wet and GEL batteries. Selecting either of these will not give the right process for AGMs and there are conflicting reports from different trade sources as to which is the nearest compromise. Charger is my existing charger bought for charging 12v batteries it is a smart one recommended several times in these forums for leisure batteries from Lidl/Aldi.
