Very impressed with this book, probably because I had very low expectations of it (sorry, but true). Born in Bangladesh, raised in Newcastle and currently residing in the outskirts of Manchester, Burhana Islam is a storyteller who is passionate about exploring themes of heritage, belonging, identity and faith in both her children's and YA works. The content and ambition of the show remains the same: to give every pupil the opportunity to engage with authors and illustrators in their own classroom using the power of the internet. I think some biography summaries were too short or didn’t concentrated on important parts of their lives like Malcom x.

What I loved was how this book shows that women achieved and continue to achieve great feats just as men did like Razan from Palestine, Khawlah Bint Al-Azwar etc and is a wonderful example of how Islam was of the first religion to give women the rights and respect they deserved. I will surely recommend it to any child, parent, or school looking for a good book full of historical knowledge. Her inspirations are rooted in the city of and in her experiences of growing up in a Bengali-Muslim household.
