About a year ago, I bought a Harley-Davidson Fat Boy special edition and I love it – especially when I take Rocco for a ride in the morning by the sea and get fresh croissants and an espresso.

From the first meatballs I rolled with my aunty Clara to the Spaghetti Vongole that I make for my own family. The 6×30 series from Betty TV celebrates the women who have fed Italy and shaped the country’s cuisine through the ages. Recent and current series include multi-award-winning The Undateables for Channel 4; Wheeler Dealers: Dream Car for Discovery and Jimmy Doherty’s Dream Builds on Wheels for Discovery Quest; Joey Essex: Grief and Me for BBC Three; Magnolia’s Emmy-nominated For the Love of Kitchens, and forthcoming Canard co-production Fred’s Last Resort for E4. Headed by Joint Creative Directors David Harrison and Helen Cooke, Betty TV has a rich heritage of producing popular factual formats which tell incredible stories with diverse characters. It will always be the most special dish in the world to me because it’s the last dish that my mother cooked for me before she passed away. In the UK, one [of my children] is at school, one’s at work, one is away, and it’s difficult to spend uninterrupted quality time together. Is it true you’ve also invited a film crew for ITV’s This Morning into ‘Villa D’Acampo’ in Sardinia, where you live for half the year?

Starting in his place of birth, Torre Del Greco in Napoli, where he learnt to cook in the kitchens of his Nonna Flora and Mamma Alba, Gino is going back to his roots to celebrate all the women whose kitchens have fuelled Italy through their incredible food. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Known for his authentic recipes and cheeky personality, and with a string of restaurants across the country to his name, Gino has risen through the ranks to become Britain's best-loved Italian chef. After training at the Luigi de Medici Catering college, Gino came to work in London and was soon discovered as a TV talent. Gino’s Italy: Like Mamma Used To Make is a six-part series that starts on ITV on Sunday September 4 at 7.The dessert section is a bit small and a bit too fancy for me but there are lots of nice recipes in different categories. I'm a huge fan of television so I really have found the perfect job, as I've been writing about TV shows, films and interviewing major television, film and sports stars for over 25 years. That’s why I try to have a good work-life balance and work for six months and then take six months off and go on holiday. You can also watch Gino D'Acampo in Gino In Sardinia on ITV’s This Morning from Tuesday September 6 at 10am (see our interview for more on his Sardinia trip). Born into a large family in Napoli, Gino's love of cooking developed from a young age when he was taught to cook by his mother and, at the age of 11, started working at his grandfather's restaurant.

With recipes including Pasta all Genovese, Steak Fiorentine and Tortellini Gino will have his work cut out to keep up with the women running the kitchens which he visits. My journey as a chef is all thanks to two generations of women and this series is about honouring them as well as exploring Italy and local dishes from other families and their matriarchs along the way.

Nicola said: “This show will see Gino immersed in the culture that fired his passion for cooking and invite viewers to join him as he celebrates the women who nurture and continue the traditions that make Italian food the centre of family life with all the warmth, humour and wisdom that brings. Gino’s Italy: Like Mamma Used To Make begins with Gino re-uniting with his aunts Lina and Rita and niece Martina, and Gino’s suitably embarrassed when they pull out family photos albums full of a naked baby Gino!
