Clair has made many changes to the initial myth to make it work for her story and her setting, and honestly, I was SO here for it! Their communication and ways in which they worked together in this book made me feel as if I was a proud mother. I won’t be taking the rest of the series off my tbr list, but I’ll probably stick to the Hades Saga over the Persephone x Hades one. Clair (definitely more of an adult book), which is a re-imagining of the myth of Hades and Persephone, but it’s set in an alternate, urban setting.

It's like the author wrote from sentence to sentence, picking what she wanted to say in any given moment, regardless of what had just been said/done or what was about to be said/done. It seemed that the author cherry-picked images/names/themes from mythology without taking the time to construct a cohesive universe with them. Hades, God of the Dead, has built a gambling empire in the mortal world and his favourite bets are rumoured to be impossible. His love and kind of obsession for Persephone will lead to a lot of adventures and casualties, but considering how much he was been waiting for her, I think everything was worth it. These books are fun, but also dive into a bunch of different myths concerning the goddess Persephone, the god Hades and a bunch others! And I loved it, it is very nice to see this particular god so invested in this love story and so humanized in certain scenes. V. Rieu translation of these two which are written in prose but still keep their poetic roots, and they’re super easy to read for stories that are over 2000 years old. After her encounter with Hades, Persephone finds herself in a contract with the God of the Underworld, and his terms are impossible: Persephone must create life in the Underworld or lose her freedom forever. Lastly, she spends a lot of time thinking Independent Woman thoughts, but all of those seem to fly out the window the second she gets in the presence of Hades and his magical dick. All of our books are 100% brand new, unread and purchased directly from the publishers in bulk allowing us to pass the huge savings on to you!

At the same time, Theseus continues with his agenda against the Gods, allying with the hate-group Triad in an effort to bring down all of Olympus. I loved the originality and the new approach of the author and why not, the fact that even the Gods made an upgrade to their living. The only time he makes an effort to alter her perception of him is when he starts a rehab charity for mortals, at Persephone's suggestion, but--as mentioned--she only takes that as an offense. It was really difficult to get a handle on the way in which mythological characters were employed in this story. The epic saga culminates in the third and final book, A Touch of Malice, where the stakes are higher than ever before. And of course, every appearance Hermes makes reminds me of why he is my absolute favourite character in this series. They began to be under the God’s radar and this thing caused conflict, which drowns dynamic to the plot. This surge in retellings seems to have been pioneered by Madeline Miller with her books The Song of Achilles and Circe, which are both brilliant, but if you’re just starting to dip your toe into Greek mythology, give Stephen Fry’s books Mythos, Heroes and Troy a go!
