As Mosca details his design process, it's no small feat to get Reeves to look like he's fighting as effortlessly as he does in the suits, making them almost their own characters in the Wickiverse. In Paris, John and de Gramont decide the parameters of their duel, in a meeting moderated by the Harbinger, the Table's emissary. This doesn't directly contradict anything from the movie canon but it is an interesting choice from Pak.

It wasn't, but it is an origin story, or the first part of one, and for what it was it was entertaining and well-drawn. In the John Wick universe, this same medieval system of feudalism inspires the High Table and its functionality. The High Table has its ruling class around the world, and people like John Wick and his assassin colleagues the Adjudicator (Asia Kate Dillon), Aurelio ( John Leguizamo), and the Continental's concierge Charon (Lance Reddick) all serve those respective "lords.But none of the few good points or bits and pieces of interesting ideas can make up for the absolute nonsense that is Calamity Jane and how the choice to introduce such a ridiculous character ruined both the tone and enjoyability of this comic. As he looked around it occurred to him it would be an excellent spot for a fight scene, and so they made it happen for John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.

Don’t let the cover art fool you because as far the art is concerned, John looks great and Keanu Reeves’ likeness is captured well for the comic and that’s probably the only good thing about it. All throughout the five issues, until the very end of the mini-series, Wick refers to himself as a freelancer. Mercedes "Mercy" Thompson is a fictional character and the protagonist of The Mercedes Thompson Series, written by Patricia Briggs. For a high-tech assassin and criminal underworld that has John Wick and company suited up in weapons-grade materials with a plethora of the most efficient killing machines at hand, the reveal that the Continental's administrative Switchboard uses paper, rubber stamps, chalkboards, and old-fashioned Telex machines is jarring at first. It's tough to think of a recent action movie franchise better suited for the comic book treatment than John Wick.

The films do suggest however that Wick cannot lie about his real nature, that he belongs in this world and his wife and dog dying were just the excuses he needed to unleash his true self.
