Further, the non-Cloudlifter track had an edgy, gritty quality to it that wasn’t there when I used the CL-1. I maxed the gain on one channel, and adjusted the other one down to compensate for the boost from the Cloudlifter. Then I put the CL-1 back inline, reduced the Mackie’s gain to match the signal level in Pro Tools, and recorded ambient noise again. Inserting the Cloudlifter between your dynamic mic and audio interface will ensure a much cleaner sound.

I have a Focusrite Solo and an Sm7B and it's pretty quiet right now and tough to work with in my DAW but not impossible. I just got my new CL-1 a couple of weeks ago, and I’ve been using it with a SHURE SM57 on some of my voiceover projects.
