I hadn't read Robert Gold's debut novel and I'm generally a completionist when it comes to book series however this can definitely be read as a standalone. Pamela fin da subito mi ha incuriosita perché era molto ambigua non voleva essere al centro dell’attenzione e nascondeva qualcosa. Everyone in town seems to be hiding a piece of the puzzle in this meticulously plotted page-turner .

I wish each chapter was clearly labelled as to who the chapter was about and who's viewpoint it was. I loved Ben and Dani's friendship, although I'm hoping that at some point it will turn into something more. As he goes past he sees there is a fire in the disused community centre and then someone in the building! The pace for the plot was good and there were a fair few twists and unexpected things that popped up too and I was pleased that the author managed to bring everything all together at the end and wrapped up any loose ends as there were a few different plot lines in play. This was an intriguing read, there was a few sub plots going on which could get a little confusing but it also meant there was a lot to be revealed and it all wrapped up rather well.I won’t go into detail as I don’t want to spoil it for new readers but we really get into the bones of Dani’s family history in this book. Robert Gold is the Sunday Times bestselling author of the Ben Harper series, which includes Twelve Secrets , a Richard and Judy Book Club pick , Eleven Liars and Ten Seconds . Dopo I dodici segreti torniamo ad Haddley e stavolta il nostro Ben si troverà alle prese con un incendio che svela un cadavere. Robert Gold is the Sunday Times bestselling author of the Ben Harper series, which includes Twelve Secrets, a Richard and Judy Book Club pick, Eleven Liars and Ten Seconds.

I read and loved the first book in this series, so when I saw there was a second book due out I jumped at the chance to read it.

There are a number of different characters and remembering who everyone is and how they’re all connected can take a little more mental focus. Perhaps that’s because Ben’s story was laid bare in the first book, and Eleven Liars felt more about Dani which is something I appreciated. Robert now lives in Putney and his new hometown served as the inspiration for the fictional town of Haddley in his thrillers.

Needless to say, there are lots of red herrings as the story twists and turns its course throughout the book and quite a few times I was caught in the trap of believing that everything had been fully revealed. In my review of Twelve Secrets I mentioned that I would have liked to get to know PC Dani Cash a little more. Short, snappy chapters, a plethora of flawed characters, a cosy village setting and a tightly woven backstory made for a fantastic read. As always the story is expertly crafted to start off as something very simple a fire in a community centre a variety of characters stories are interwoven into the main story to give it depth and give uou a good hook in. Right from the very beginning we dive straight into the story and become totally immersed in the world of Ben Harper and Dani Cash.

The book opens with a fire in a derelict community centre, a skeleton found in the burnt-out foundations, and someone trapped.
