At the end of the day, it really just comes down to preference, but as I said, I generally don't use subtitles for the reason above — unless it's a big-budget TV series based on popular IP, apparently. On "The Rings of Power" especially — with its two dozen characters and locations, and expansive mythology — it's helped me be more invested in the series. I doubt it though, their lack of compassion for the deaf and hard of hearing community is shameful, to say the least. Netflix's "Stranger Things" took its subtitles to the next level with season four, with descriptions like "tentacles squelching wetly" that sparked social-media conversation. I have tried holding down English subtitles button as suggested, and gone back to repeat, no such luck!

It is astonishing that they wouldn't do everything in their power to try and meet this minimum expectation with a show of this magnitude. There is still a bug, 15 months and counting, to my knowledge, where the setting on the Stick for subtitles wherever possible won’t stay On.
