Eight stories involving the love lives of more than a dozen characters are brought together over one Christmas and climax on Christmas Eve, from the recent widower Daniel (Liam Neeson), the failing marriage of Karen (Emma Thompson) and Harry (Alan Rickman), the aging rocker (Bill Nighy) who just wants to get paid, through to the Prime Minister (Hugh Grant) falling for a member of Number 10's staff (Martine McCutcheon).

Surprisingly, I would've liked to have seen more of each couple just to get to know them all more so the respective endings had a little more meaning. A few ended too abruptly or with little fan fare, but the bulk of the plots are wrapped up in such a way that it's impossible not to smile. Personally I prefer practical presents, so the whimsical, thoughtful presents are outside of my understanding. This ensemble comedy tells ten separate but intertwining stories of love in London, leading up to a big climax on Christmas Eve.Commentary: Richard Curtis (director), Hugh Grant, Bill Nighy and Thomas Sangster, Deleted Scenes, Documentaries: 'The Storytellers'. A wayward husband woos his secretary, only to learn how foolish he is, while the Prime Minister falls for his servant.

If you haven't already seen it you're missing out big-time and I expect it will become a tradition for me to watch this every Christmas and who knows. Luckily, the opening scenes for each story are short but slowly become a bit longer and more involved, so by the middle of the film I found myself caught up in the lives unfolding on screen. I never thought I would say this but I think Love Actually may have actually (no pun intended) overtaken 'It's a wonderful life' to become my favourite Christmas film of all time.
