Description

A poor condition book can still make a good reading copy but is generally not collectible unless the item is very scarce. It was first published in 1988 with Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Shaye Areheart as editors at Doubleday Publishing Company.

I don’t know what they must have thought – that I had someone back in the garage who was writing them for me? Very few are captioned, and it would have been interesting at least to know which year some of the shots were taken.

Ken Tucker, of The New York Times, stated that if the book had been written by anyone else, it would be dismissed as "an assiduously unrevealing, frequently tedious document. But I don’t have that chance, and as much as it breaks my heart, I know you’re at peace now, more than you ever were while you were on this Earth that treated you so cruelly without cause or reason.

His publishers rejected the first draft of the book because it was not scandalous enough, and so this was the first time he revealed the childhood beatings he experienced, which undoubtedly contributed to the person who he became (not the freak people say he is, but the wonderful, loving humanitarian (but of course, I'm biased! That is why when I read this book I feel like MJ was in front of me telling me his great chapters of his life (Chapter 1: Just kids with a dream, Chapter 2: The promised land, Chapter 3: Dancing Machine, Chapter 4: Me and Q, Chapter 5: The Moonwalk, Chapter 6: All you need is love). The three essentials to achieve anything worthwile are, first, hard work; second, stick-to-it-iveness; third, common sense' (Thomas Edison). Everybody' is more playful than 'Off the Wall' dance tunes, with Mike McKinney propelling it like a plane turning and bearing down. This resulted in Jackson being tried, and later acquitted, of more child molestation allegations and several other charges in 2005. After this, Jackson went on hiatus, traveling to countries such as Bahrain, before starting work on new material in Ireland. Moonwalk is an amazing and very descriptive story of Michael Jackson's life prior to and up until 1985. But all the public wants to do is to continue to beat him into the ground until their's nothing left. Plus he also name-drops a lot, not only the names of other celebrities but random people who might have done his hair and make-up one time - quite frustrating and monotonous!

It chronicles his humble beginnings in the Midwest, his early days with the Jackson 5, and his unprecedented solo success.

When the book was ready to be published, he decided not to do it, but finally relented and allowed publication. Growing up with an abusive father, with no friends and absolutely no independence makes him love singing and dancing even more. This actually led to the feeling that you (as the reader) were having a conversation with him , were getting the first-hand personal story directly from him to you. The amazing thing is that I felt as though he was still alive reading this book, I could imagine him actually saying it out loud. Michael Jackson never gave up: even when the press was mean, even when he felt alone, even when his fans wouldn't let him get a night's sleep, even when he was mobbed, even when some records did worse than others, even when he was hurt. That is ultimate disrespect for a person who has given us so much joy and great music for 40 years of his life.
