Inspired by their grandfather Bobby Alfons, who immigrated to the Netherlands from the Moluccan ‘spice island’ Ambon and infused Dutch jenever with a mixture of Indonesian spices, grandsons Sebastiaan and David embarked on a mission to revive this heritage. To truly appreciate the craft that goes into each bottle, Sebastiaan suggests trying the gin neat first so you can taste all the botanicals. Interestingly, the team use a fractional distillation technique to produce the spirit, distilling the botanicals separately in either 600 litre or 3000 litre copper pot stills to achieve the required flavours.

Eight botanicals are each distilled on their own before being blended together to create his namesake gin. The flavour profile is then enriched by a herbaceous blend of Indonesian spices infused with the traditional gin botanicals. Note: if the mix is to be kept warm for an extended time the spices should be removed once you are happy with the flavour, otherwise it will become astringent.Inspired by his grandfather’s story he travelled to Schiedam, the city where gin originated and started work on creating a unique gin, blending the tradition of Schiedam Genever with the best Indonesian botanicals and spices.
