Description

It covers the basics well, although there are several times when the book tells you about a device, like a trap, but doesn't tell you how to make it.

Bushcraft 101 is an introduction to these personal principles on how to make the most of your time in the woods utilising traditional skills and equipment. For reading this, for the obvious Internet use, my spare "Pebble Charger" which charges my tablet 2x.

With Canterbury's guidance, you will not only prepare yourself for any climate and situation, you will also learn how to use the art of bushcraft to reconnect with nature in ways you have never imagined. With advice on not just getting along, but truly reconnecting with the great outdoors, Dave Canterbury’s treasure trove of world-renowned wisdom and experience comes to life within these pages. Dave Canterbury is an American bushcraft and survival instructor who is best known for, among other things, the Pathfinder Bushcraft School and Self Reliance Outfitters, his partnership with the knife maker Morakniv and his appearance on TV shows such as Dual Survival.

Detailed lessons include firemaking, manufacturing your own tools and gear, foraging, and trapping and processing game.Once you have a basic kit sorted, the second half the book launches into a basic overview of wilderness skills including, camp craft, fire lighting and navigation.

I would highly recommend this book for those that are getting started in traditional bushcraft skills or looking to simplify their kit for short adventures and stays in the woods. My SAS Book has Morse Code in it, so a torch (which I have and value) necessary for this, and for seeing around I have two head strap on light sources, a wind up lantern, that has Torch, lantern and Flashing Red Beacon, important. The ultimate resource for experiencing the backcountry written by survivalist expert Dave Canterbury, Bushcraft 101 gets you ready for your next backcountry trip with advice on making the most of your time outdoors. I found the first half of the book, including the 5 Cs framework, to the most helpful as a really practical philosophy for carrying fewer items (but not necessarily less weight) and being more comfortable. If you already have a decent amount of experience in the woods, I would check out the sequel to this book; Advanced Bushcraft. Shelters, both from your surroundings, to Tarpaulin set ups, I have The Collins "Book of Knots" This book here covers your basic knots as well, I have the same Collins book of "Free Food" this book also covers that, if not in so much detail, it's got enough that you will need. He has been published in Self Reliance Illustrated, New Pioneer, American Frontiersman, and Trapper’s World. With Canterbury's guidance, you'll not only prepare yourself for any climate and situation, you'll also learn how to use the art of bushcraft to reconnect with nature in ways you've never imagined.
