About this deal

The biggest difference between my first book and the one you’re reading now is this: mine isn’t the only voice in this one.

Sometimes it’s just really nice to read about people falling in love with no other strings attached (while they do very nerdy things). The author has a tremendous work ethic, and encourages others to follow his example of tireless focus on developing his brand.Gary makes it clear that this book is not some magic template of success, in 3 simple steps: “Don’t look for a nine-step program to success here, though. He’s sooo right though, just think about how hard it used to be too start a business, and get your name out there. We’ll dissect every current major platform so that all of you, from plumbers (your pillar should be Facebook; see Chapter 12) to park rangers (yours is YouTube; see Chapter 11), will know exactly which platform to use as your pillar content, and how to use the other platforms to amplify your personal brands.

He also shares stories from other entrepreneurs who have grown wealthier—and not just financially—than they ever imagined possible by following Crush It principles. The secret to their success (and Gary's) has everything to do with their understanding of the social media platforms, and their willingness to do whatever it took to make these tools work to their utmost potential. It’s the kind where an eleven-year-old kid and his dad can become millionaires by creating a YouTube channel where they share online videos of themselves cutting things in half. During that week, I bought a copy of Success magazine and the feature interview in that issue was GaryVee — who I’d never heard of — but I put the CD in my laptop and listened.

To access your ebook(s) after purchasing, you can download the free Glose app or read instantly on your browser by logging into Glose. This one statement seems to me to sum up the essence of the author’s business philosophy: “In a world where the standard is pretty much nothing, you have to be just altruistic enough. Those kids may have grown up to make a decent enough living, but by doing something they tolerate or even hate. The feeding tube that doctors had put in earlier that day was installed wrong causing the contents to leak and fill up her body, driving her towards infection and death. But then Jay gets tangled up in a crush with Alex, a closeted boy at the skate park who thinks they are a boy. To succeed on a grand scale, you need to work for free, nearly nonstop, and probably for years before any substantial payoff.

Finally, the book has some practical tips on using relevant hashtags, direct messaging and forming partnerships with influencers in your area of interest, engaging directly with your audience, and specific advice regarding the various social media channels. Considering Gary Vee's level of audience, we can imagine that the marketing of this successful book was huge. Something he said made me realize how stupid I’m being for not taking advantage of the current time we’re living in:(This isn’t a direct quote word for word) Gary said, we’re living in a time where it is SO EASY to start a business/become an entrepeneur bc of our current technology and social media. It’s set in 2003, which brought me back to my own high school days (although this story is much cooler), and features none of the homophobia that did exist at the time, which is refreshing! After an epic grounding for some bad decisions with even worse friends, Tommy is lucky to even go to the Door Tech March Break camp.

If you have read Gary’s other books, or paid attention to any of his content, there won’t be a whole lot of new information here. There’s no way long written content is getting traction on Snapchat, but on Facebook a thirteen-paragraph blog post will work. Our Book of the Month for Teen readers is Jay’s Guide to Crushing It from own-voices author Ruby Clyde. Today there are millions of people just like me who have used the Internet to build personal brands, thriving businesses, and a life on their own terms.
