This was the story of a heinous crime which was committed five years prior to the time of this novel's setting. Figures for economic activity do not include those aged under 16, or those family members aged 16-18 who are in full-time education. Chief Inspector Charles Lambert was the officer in charge of the Farriers' Lane case five years ago. Having provided enough damaging testimony to convict a man of murder would seem a triumph of investigative police work.
