With its perfect balance between malt and hops, G de Goudale Grand Cru is an absolute gem that is worth trying if only to compare it to La Goudale so as to savour the dry hopping effect! Aromas of big orange, peach, plum, pear, apricot, red apple, white grape, peppercorn, light banana/clove, honey, cracker, biscuit dough, toast, light caramel/nutty, herbal, floral, wood, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. A real refermentation in the bottle, which will continue for a long time in your cellar, result into this complex and particular aromatic beer. La Goudale is a bière de garde which was originally brewed in Douai (northern France) by Les Brasseurs de Gayant. These characteristics derive not only from the grains used but also from restrained hopping with Styrians and the fruity nature (banana and vanilla) of the house yeast. Tastes like quality beer, good alcohol volume so just one's enough to get a buzz going and two are enough for good times.

In the mouth, spicy notes of yeast and hops sharp bitterness are finely counterbalanced by the full-rounded malts. The brewery makes a number of other varieties and brands including Secret des Moines, Belzebuth, Kekette and St Landelin among others. Starting off fairly nondescript like the aroma, a bit of a malty sweetness going on with a slight herbal influence, you're suddenly faced with a wave of bready malts and honey and some stone fruits, along with some spicy hops and some Belgian-tasting clove flavours too.
