I particularly enjoyed the writing style (which can be attributed to both Verne and the translator) because it suits the topic of the novel.

In Lonely Planet Kids' Around the World in 50 Ways, kids choose their favourite routes and transportation, from tuk-tuks and sleds, to steamboats and hot-air balloons. He is also the illustrator of many books for young readers, including Always and I’ll Be There by Ann Stott and The Higher Power of Lucky by Susan Patron, winner of the 2007 Newbery Medal.

It has fallen to him to sail his boat around the world alone, becoming the first person ever to make the journey without a crew of sailors at his assistance. He wrote a book in 1699 that was translated into French: Voyage around the World or Voyage du Tour du Monde (1719, Paris). Particularly moving is the final story of Joshua Slocum, who sailed around the world in a little over three years in a small sailboat. After reading and enjoying Matt Phelan's "The Storm in the Barn," I was curious to see what else he had written.

He completed the trip in 78 days, 14 hours and 40 minutes, after departing from Paris on 2 July 2017. They'll visit famous cities and exotic, far-flung places - and learn amazing facts about each destination along the way.

Then upon arriving at their next destination, they'll get to explore the local area and see what makes it so interesting and unique. Or, how should I say, the stories are put together in one volume because they are all circumnavigation stories. My main impression was that Nellie was grouchy, and extremely determined, and that women weren't taken very seriously back then.

When I think about this book, I keep having to remind myself that not every kid is a 10-year-old boy who loves aliens and farting. Nellie Bly, by far the most interesting globetrotter seen here, departs New York in 1889 as a reporter with the goal of traveling around the world in 74 days, beating Verne's fictional Phileas Fogg. Little Kunoichi is a ninja-girl-in-training and has a very special pet – a fearless, powerful, super-duper Ninja Bunny.Even more dangerous, for him, is that he enters this untamed world of blue above and blue beneath while struggling with his own inner demons, not entirely sure what is real that he sees, and what is rising from the dark corners of his imagination.

At Calcutta, they board a steamer (the Rangoon) going to Hong Kong, with a day's stopover in Singapore. Each of these strange and true tales - populated by self-mummifying monks, tree-climbing goats and ever-so-slightly radioactive nuts - is illustrated by Lucille Clerc, taking the reader on a journey that is as informative as it is beautiful. Lu Xun was a leader of the “New Culture” movement that revolutionized Chinese writing in the early twentieth century.
