After 5-year-old Jacob’s tragic death, a mother loses everything while two Bristol detectives pledge to find the individual responsible for his death. Jenna continues to obstruct her past from Patrick, but one day two police officers knocking on the door of her sanctuary in Wales ensures that her awful secret must come to light.

Overall, I loved the atmosphere, the mystery was strong, as well as the police procedural aspects of the story. Stevens is drawn to the younger Kate, his partner because she's someone he can talk to easily and knows the score around the office. Overall, this one gets kudos for originality, for tossing the formula writing out the window and for giving me a story that challenged me, which is just what I am always on the lookout for.In a year or so he would know her as well as he knew the rest of the team, but he hadn’t quite sussed her out yet. The child’s mother was sitting on a small sofa, her eyes fixed on the blue drawstring school bag clutched on her lap. It would be virtually impossible to survive a fall of that nature, and we know from other sections of the book (Patrick’s girlfriend, the father and son canoeists lost at sea, and the experiences shared by the local Detective Inspector) that bodies often take some time to wash up on the coast.

It takes to the court date where Jenna has confessed to Jacob's killing and is awaiting her sentencing for the truth to finally come out. But gee-whiz, she has the thriller writing chops, she could have used that skill a tiny bit at the beginning. As Ray and Kate drew near to the scene they were stopped by a young PC, his fluorescent jacket zipped so high Ray could barely make out a face between the peak of his hat and his collar. Farther up the road a second paper-suited figure was examining one of the huge trees that lined the road. I LET YOU GO follows a mother hiding out in a secluded cottage, attempting to heal from her son's untimely loss, and the two detectives tasked with finding the boy's killer.

Unable to resist, I open the box and pick up the uppermost photo: a Polaroid taken by a soft-spoken midwife on the day he was born. With the investigation hitting a dead end, despite the dedication and tireless work of Detective Inspector Ray Stevens and his team, the case is swept under the carpet, to make way for more high profile cases. And then the bad guy(in this case the abusive husband,Ian) comes back and gives the protagonist,Jenna one last beating.

The plot wasn't really exciting and then they were other small reveals throughout the story which were so predictable or just unnecessary, like the bit where it turns out Jacob was Ian's son just seemed so pointless and was only thrown in for shock value. I love connecting with my readers, and there are plenty of ways you can get a sneak peek at what's going on behind the scenes. We move between Jenna-- as she takes some photos, gets a dog and starts a new romance in Wales --and the lead detective, Ray, who manages to be even more boring than Jenna.I was momentarily disoriented as I went back to reread the paragraph a couple of times before I was convinced that what I thought I had read was indeed what I did read. As they chase down one hopeless lead after another, they find themselves as drawn to each other as they are to the frustrating, twist-filled case before them. She looked up at him, twisting the drawstring so tightly around her hands the cord gouged red grooves in her skin. No, it was mainly because I was sick of passing all the big jobs over to the specialists and never seeing anything through to the end. They reach the quiet street where home lies just around the corner, its seductive warmth a welcome thought.
