Description

Glenfarclas means ‘Valley of the Green Grassland’ and the spring water, which ensures the verdant green grass, is essential to the distinct flavour of Glenfarclas Highland Single Malt Whisky.

It bubbles up, crystal clear, from the underlying granite on the slopes of the Speyside mountain, Ben Rinnes, to supply the distillery below. Complex, yet refined nose, with tempting aromas of marmalade, honey, freshly ground coffee, sherry and nuts. Glenfarclas 25 Year Old is a classic Speysider, showing all the lovely sherry character we love from Glenfarclas. As the Scotch producer marks the occasion with its first age statement, production director John Campbell shares his take on its first half-decade.

The Glenfarclas 25 has a stunning amber hue with alluring dark gold tints, owing to its lengthy maturing period.

Matured in Spanish ex sherry casks this whisky is for lovers of rich and fruity Speyside single malt whiskies. Rather than their usual battles on the martial arts mats they are going to let the whiskies do the fighting. But, knowing well and being a fan of Glenfarclas 105, I do know what a more naturally presented Glenfarclas is capable of (even if batch variation is perhaps a bigger issue with the 105 than with other expressions, in my experience). I enjoyed the distillery tour, the tasting in the lovely Ship Room, and the friendly tour guide who, despite being the only ones on the tour, didn’t rush my partner and I and even hung out with us for a while after the tour had “officially” ended. The palate is sweet and balanced, offering warm apple tart, cinnamon, cooked blueberries, raisins, toffee, and Christmas cake, with a slight and appealing hint of soapiness.
