About this deal

Were the contents better, this might be a nice addition to a collection, but they aren't and it isn't. Right there with Narnia, Hogwarts, Westeros, Oz, Midgard, Asgard, The Continent, Azeroth, the various Star Wars planets (Tatooine, Coruscant, Naboo, Yavin IV, Endor, etc.

It was published in 1981, following Tolkien's major works The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion. David Day fornece algum complemento para as informações que você pode obter diretamente de Silmarillion. Then there is map, which is an interesting take on the cosmology of Ea, not horrible, but not great either as it seems to exhibit anachronistic features and the shape is all wrong. At the same time, these overviews also offer an extended, informative background on the LOTR books/ films. Seeing someone's crude interpretation of Morgoth, Gothmog the Balrog, and Sauron, for instance, ruins the impression of these monstrous creatures that Tolkien's words create in the reader's mind.Un libro precioso y perfecto que te ayuda a conocer el mundo que creó Tolkien de forma simplificada. It gets really interesting when it comes to additional information such as the names of the cities and the (wild) animals of Middle-Earth.

It works very well as a companion book, raising questions that can then be more thoroughly explored through the reading of more of Tolkien's works. In it, Day notes that this is a compilation of earlier material done at the insistence of his publisher, though he dresses that up. Definitivno je namenjeno onima koji su već upoznati sa Tolkinovom bibliografijom, dakle koji su pročitali kako Gospodara/Hobita, tako i Silmarilion, ali i razne apendikse/dodatke.That's not to say you have to be a LOTR scholar or Tolkien academic to post or enjoy this subreddit, but that we'd prefer mature topics of discussion here. It was, however, published before the final three volumes of The History of Middle-earth, and thus some maps are based on Tolkien's early works, which were revised in later writings. It's not quite an illustrated atlas, there are plenty of illustrations but maybe not enough of the world-building itself.

While the book is informative, it does gloss over many things, and with it being such a quick read, it should only take two or three days to read this. Through the 1980's and 1990's, Day published The Eco-Wars and The Whale Wars along with three other books on environmental activism. He is one of my favourite authors after all, and whilst books like this are good reminders of his genius, they could never capture the breadth of his imagination. Packed with full page maps and illustrations of events in the annals of Middle-earth, it is the perfect companion to the bestselling A DICTIONARY OF TOLKIEN.A revised and updated second edition was published in 1991, after Christopher Tolkien had edited and published eight volumes of The History of Middle-earth following his father's death. Pages 39 and 88: On both pages, Drúwaith Iaur is shown north of the Ered Nimrais and south of the Angren, and on page 39 extending east below the Adorn.
