Die Ereignisse in der Megastruktur spitzen sich zu, als Davine Lu versucht, sich in die Netzsphäre zu hacken. Story just needs to provide enough context to build intrigue, enough momentum to make the tour engaging, to maintain the tone of lonely, interminable seeking that keeps the zoomed out shots so personal and poignant.

He discovers that Cibo, having lost her memory, was eventually rescued by Sanakan, who is now allied with the Authority against the rest of the Safeguard. Vaulted galleries stretch out to stygian distance; geometric cathedrals concrete over the roof of heaven; bottomless shafts descend to a vanishing point so tiny that they could pierce the page. Although that said maybe making a new mistake where none existed before may be appropriate because it goes back to the very title of the manga, an accidental Engrish mangling of the gun-report sound effect "Blam! Killy and Cibo next come to a region of the City ruled by a group of Silicon Life, where they ally with a pair of "provisional Safeguards" named Dhomochevsky and Iko.

Esta edición concreta es muy buena, mucho mayor tamaño que los manga normales, de momento me ha dejado muy buena impresión. After only one volume of the Master Edition, I don't quite understand everything about the story (yet) but I loved all the scenes -- the quiet moments and the action sequences -- and I'm in love with the gorgeous cyberpunk/trash/gothic art of Tsutomu Nihei! The architecture-heavy background designs were completely engrossing, but the way some human characters were drawn felt strangely amateurish, and the action sequences were sometimes hard to follow. What's also impressive is the level of invention on display - you'd expect that the theme of "empty buildings" would get a bit old after a few hundred pages but credit to Nihei for continuing to show a wide variety of scenery, with every backdrop demonstrating a new cityscape.

When all of this is brought together in the book of Blame the result is scant plot but buckets of atmosphere. The City is inhabited by scattered human and transhuman tribes as well as hostile cyborgs known as Silicon Creatures. It’s also a little challenging for the reader, because the lack of text makes it tempting to flip through the pages quickly, when what you really want to do is take your time and let the story form in your head. I remember being blown away that I could follow along on this Snake Eyes story even though it had no words in it.For the actual humans that still remain, eking out a wretched existence on whatever moisture condenses on the walls of the City and whatever slime slicks down the pipes, people look thin, bent and tired. It's the full-flavour and full-fat Nihei - are we going to be shooting into an amazing high or are we trapped in one really bad trip? This is one of the longer graphic novels I've read, clocking in at just over 400 pages (which I guess is what makes it the "Master Edition") but it goes by really quickly because there isn't a lot of text. A lot of this, then, ends up serving as a kind of wordless architectural surrealism, from which the vague outlines of a plot begin to well up in pure fascination.
