Description

The coffee grounds are collected from cafes, offices, factories, universities etc throughout the UK, repurposing a waste product. The first two coffee logs lasted around 1 hour before I then refueled the stove with an additional two coffee logs, sitting them on the embers of the first two. Functional, eco-friendly, innovative and coffee-related - we can’t believe we didn’t discover them sooner. Making your own coffee logs can help use up your waste coffee grinds that would otherwise end up in the bin. However, a fire at its coffee grounds recycling plant in Cambridgeshire in late March scuppered investment plans as vital machinery was damaged.

Each carbon neutral Coffee Log is made from the grounds of 25 cups of coffee and burns 20% hotter and longer than kiln-dried wood.

To accelerate the airflow I fully opened the air wheel and the new logs were again quick to produce a good flame and ended up producing very little ash. It was about reimagining waste and visualising a second life for the coffee grounds that would otherwise end up in landfills, emitting harmful greenhouse gases.

It’s easy to light, very efficient, burns anthracite and stays in overnight (ours has been in for three weeks now). This made them a good alternative to traditional sawdust-based briquettes , although they couldn't boast the high heat output of hardwood heat logs or fire logs, nor could they compete with Night Briquettes when it came to burn time. It had a supply contract with Costa Coffee to recycle its coffee grounds, but it is understood it ran into capacity constraints due to difficulties signing up other major coffee players to recycle their waste grounds. The logs provide an excellent way to start or resurrect fires quickly and efficiently (especially when paired with a Firebuilder. They’ve already helped thousands of UK households save money by reducing their wood fuel consumption.Instead, they have managed to create a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels that packs the speed and strength of caffeine. However, lead times in peak season can extend to 5 working days, sometimes longer in extreme weather. However, a lot of people underestimate how dangerous it can be if you don’t burn logs properly, so keep reading for some tips on how to use them safely this winter.

It was further hit by a sharp escalation in costs last year, particularly related to energy and the bespoke machinery required to dry the spent coffee grounds. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Admittedly, it is a bit odd that something which, on the one hand, is obviously eco friendly in its design and intention, isn’t, on paper at least, deemed so at the moment when it comes to reusing them as fuel in a Smoke a Control Area. You can even make your own coffee logs at home if you have sufficient waste grounds and rather a lot of patience. You have the choice at checkout to select your preferred carrier with the following restrictions: Royal Mail First Class and Second Class (untracked) are available on packages up to 2kg and the cost is variable depending on the weight.
