My mind was blown multiple times and my heart was broken and my emotions were all over the place as my heart bled for these imaginary characters that seemed too real. the comparisons to colleen hoover’s regretting you are pretty inevitable but the stylistic differences are so large imo that they’re far from being the same book. No idea how he got out of the fire, who they buried, I was just so annoyed at this point that the skimming wasn’t really skimming it was ✨✨skipping ✨✨. I think this WOULD have worked better if their was an inclination of Rob being alive so that this wasn’t so left field.And as a daughter and nurse practitioner, she’s spent her adult life being responsible for her parents’ physical and mental health. I’ve read—and enjoyed—a number of Martinez’s books, but to me you have to go in knowing that she really puts her characters through the wringer and that the angst sometimes tips over into melodrama; also, coincidence often plays a huge role in how events play out.
