About this deal

Danielewski's textured novel is about apprehensions, in all senses of the word: to anticipate with dread, to seize, to understand. The production featured music, five people reading the words of the five speakers in the novella (including Betsy Brandt, who played Marie Schrader on Breaking Bad), [35] and shadow casting by Christine Marie. But Danielewski has done something different: He has remade the haunted house story into a metaphor for dread itself: its smothering darkness, its infinite expansion, the way it takes hold within us, where we think we are most at home.

Starting with an odd assortment of marginalized youth-musicians, tattoo artists, programmers, strippers, environmentalists, and adrenaline junkies-the book eventually made its way into the hands of older generations, who not only found themselves in those strangely arranged pages but also discovered a way back into the lives of their estranged children. The myth of Theseus and the Minotaur is referenced frequently throughout the book both explicitly and implicitly. The book interweaves the manuscript with over 400 footnotes to works real and imagined, thus illuminating both the text and Truant's mental disintegration. Experimental in terms of design, typogr aphy, structure and content, this is a fully immersive and novel reading experience you won't be able to forget. Only Revolutions was a finalist for the 2006 National Book Award and has been translated into French, Dutch, and German.

Ballrad, Stephen King, and David Foster Wallace bowing at Danielewski's feet, choking with astonishment, surprise, laughter, awe. Small sections of the book were downloadable off the internet before the release of the first edition, and it is said that these sections "circulated through the underbellies of Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and San Francisco, through strip clubs and recording studios, long before publication" – though very few were able to experience the book this way initially. Another interesting aspect is the fact that there are disagreements among the three texts (narratives, so to speak), yet they don't necessarily contradict each other. The simultaneous paperback issue of the first published edition of his first book (which states "2nd edition" on the title page).

The story remains unchanged, focusing on a young family that moves into a small home on Ash Tree Lane where they discover something is terribly wrong: their house is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. The filmmaker had just moved his family into a house on Ash Tree Lane and hadn't even had the chance to unpack before the strangeness began. House of Leaves has been translated into numerous languages, including Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Polish, Serbian, Spanish, and Turkish. What is common to all three is a concern for the elusive nature of truth and experience, and the fragility of the deepest human needs for security and family. On September 15, 2010, Danielewski announced the work on his message board: "Later this month publishers will receive the first 5 volumes of Mark Z.

PLEASE NOTE: the whole colophon is replete with metafictional misinformation: the first editions all state 2nd edition, with the fictional 'privately distributed' edition that the 'editors' of the Foreword allude to being the (ficitonal) first edition, etc. First novelist Danielewski employs avant-garde page layouts that are occasionally a bit too clever but are generally highly effective.

I got to the part with the passage from the POE album- the remix of "Hey Pretty", track 18, on pages 88-89. The house is completely baffling, Johnny is sliding into madness, and there is something evil that haunted Zampano and the house on Ash Tree Lane and now stalks Johnny.
