About this deal

Kakeru is forever clueless about Yamato's feelings, unable to believe that anyone would ever have a crush on him. I really loved seeing Yamato and Kakeru experience all the flavours and confusions of youth as they learn to explore and rediscover what they mean to each other. Frieren is still going strong continuing from last season, but The Dangers in My Heart is the one stealing the spotlight!

Designed and maintained by devoted anime fans, Anime UK News and it’s fledgling forum community is growing with each passing month, proving we are an ambitious and trusted resource for UK-based anime fans and beyond! But Yamato’s admission-instead of reaching Kakeru’s heart-puts a strain on their already tense relationship.

And he goes on to talk about a memory that gives Yamato much to think about – in a good and positive way. Here are the three things that drew me to this: It's a slow-burn BL romance (the romance seems to burn at your emotions in the most satisfying way), a manga (so I get to see everything happen in such a pretty art style! Amamiya and Fujino, their school friends have huge personalities that fill up a page and Yui is a perfect troll that’s always good for a laugh or to stir things up. Kakeru pays a lot of attention to almost everything his friend does, but he is particularly interested in knowing why Yamato never acknowledges any of the numerous romantic confessions he often gets from girls. What they do instead however, is have the characters be too shy, scared or embarrassed to ask a question directly so they just dance around it or decide to wait until next time and leave things a bit up in the air in the meantime. Yamato is extremely shy and has to push himself out of his comfort zone to show his feelings to Kakeru. Kaina's closing chapter is hindered by a stereotypical villain and predictable plotting, where the destination was emphasized over the journey. But what kind of future can such a relationship have when one of the two is more committed than the other – or, as is the case here, is more sure of his own feelings? But even though that misunderstanding is cleared up and they agree to go out together to the cinema on The Day, Kakeru is so agitated at the prospect of going on ‘a date’ with Yamato that he spends a sleepless night with the inevitable consequences.

They are in fact very good about having the characters never really assume anything and check with the other in case of doubt. Shaw's impressive vocal range — from the imperious Claire to the timid Lily, makes this audiobook version the best way to enjoy I'm in Love with the Villainess. It's the classic BL setup of a guy in love with his somewhat oblivious childhood friend and is scared of rejection. Sure, there are other stories happening during those times, or else it would be downright infuriating, but it can still feel like the story is dragging here and there. It’s to Kakeru that he eventually unburdens himself – and Kakeru, bless him, cries too because he’s a sympathetic little soul.
