I felt like Aubrey’s internal dialogue was recycled too much and Jax kept saying the same thing over and over again – she was his, they were inevitable. Too sensitive to breathe and get is having casual sex with a dude for anywhere from four years to one year to one night it's unclear. I’ve read many books where couples reconnect after a trauma bond that needed to be severed, and this wasn’t it. Remember, the journey through a book series is not just about reaching the end but also about the memories created along the way. I can see where some people would like this book bc it has some good ideas and the writing isn’t terrible, it felt a bit clunky sometimes but overall I can tell there is hidden potential.The characters: there was a clear attempt to create a depth to both of the mcs, and it just never translated for me. Diving into one of Shain Rose’s earlier works, I decided to jump into her Stonewood Brothers series. With Jax and Aubrey's story takes us on a journey that starts when they a younger and continues on until their present day. Audrey was abused but grew up to be a coward who hid from life but thought she was so smart and worldly. Then, we’d each swim around in a lust-filled wonder, holding our breath because the second we gulped for air, the toxicity of our past would fill our lungs.

I felt the pain Aubrey went through with her loss of her mother, her painful childhood, and I loved the chemistry between her and Jax. Please remember that this is only my opinion, and seriously, there was enough goodness to keep it perfect for me anyway since I was completely immersed cover to cover. Jay’s family takes Aubrey in and this is where the most beautiful relationship I’ve ever read starts between Jax and Aubrey. Each book represents a chapter in the broader narrative, introducing new twists, turns, and perhaps the occasional talking dragon (disclaimer: dragons depend on the genre). Jax telling Aubrey he envisioned her every time he was with another woman, and justifying singing her song and kissing another woman to it, it was disrespectful and didn’t land as romantic as intended. One of them was the MMC and I’m not clear on the details but they kinda realise things are not well at FMC’s home.
