Laphroaig 10 year old is the original Laphroaig, distilled the same way today as when Ian Hunter invented it more than 75 years ago. Aromas of new shoe leather, iodine, smoked trout, flowers, intense grain, soft cheese, peat-reek and dried seaweed. Laphroaig 10 is the quintessential expression of Laphroaig and its character can be found in nearly every whisky that the distillery produces.

This full-bodied variant is the foundation of all Laphroaig expressions and comes with a long finish.

The original Laphroaig, distilled the same way today as when Ian Hunter invented it over 75 years ago. Laphroaig 10 Year Old was first released in 2004 and has since become a popular expression of the Laphroaig whisky brand. On the nose there are clouds of smoke with an iodine infused sea spray topped with a sprig of seaweed. From a 25km-long, storm-buffeted island off the west coast of Scotland comes Laphroaig (pronounced ‘la-froyg’), a Gaelic word meaning ‘beautiful hollow by the broad bay’.

After drawing rich character from ex-Bourbon barrels, the spirit then rests in casks previously filled with sweet Oloroso sherry. Laphroaig Distillery, nestled on the rugged shores of Islay, an island in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland, is celebrated as a haven for peat lovers and a custodian of the island's iconic smoky character. The distillery takes pride in its use of traditional methods, including floor malting and direct-fired stills, which contribute to the authenticity and depth of its expressions. Aged for ten years, and distilled following the traditions laid down over the last 200 years by a succession of passionate and skilled master distillers.Following this, the grain is dried over the same smouldering embers before being laid out on our malt floor, overlooking the sea. A brand new addition to Laphroaig's core range, this 10 year old whisky has been finished in Oloroso sherry casks adding a layer of dark chocolate, leather and caramel onto the distillery's signature . This single malt matures in charred ex-Bourbon barrels for a full decade before being bottled at its natural cask strength, preserving its powerful and distinctive flavors. A distinctive character that still holds true to the spirit of Ian Hunter, who first created it over 75 years ago. It took the crown from Lagavulin 16 over two years ago and every so often I do a taste test between Lag 16, Arbeg 10 and Lap 10 and each time I prefer the Lap.
