About this deal

He is distraught to discover that the inheritance he had hoped for will not materialise until he marries and produces a male heir. A Light in the Window is a very quick read and it’s really edge of your seat stuff from beginning to end. Reiner and Wilhelm are the older brothers of the family and the only surviving members because they weren't there during the explosion. Margarete is the sole survivor and she seizes the opportunity to adopt the identity of the family’s daughter, and though continually in fear of being discovered she successfully passes herself off.

There are times when she is happy to be free, times when she fears for her life , a bit of romance and a choice she must make that is the hardest choice she has ever had to make. But as the Nazis start rounding up Jews in Paris and the Résistance steps up its activities, putting everyone who opposes the regime in peril, she realizes staying hidden in plain sight may be her only chance of survival. This unforgettable must read, is one that will definitely stick with you long after you finish reading it.

Can Margarete trust a Nazi officer with the only things she has left though… her safety, her life, even her heart? Although the ending might not have been what my heart was aching for, it was representative of the times, and I was pacified with the knowledge that a sequel is in the works.

Though Light From Heaven is officially the final novel in the series, there's yet another Mitford book in this prolific author.w oknie to niewątpliwie powieść nasączona goryczą i obezwładniającym smutkiem, ale także siłą ludzkich emocji – tak sugestywnych i niespodziewanych.

Margarete avoids everyone except Wilhelm Huber, a son working in Paris at the time of the bombing but eventually their paths cross. At the age of 50, she left her career in advertising and moved to Blowing Rock, North Carolina, to pursue that dream. The fourth Mitford novel, A New Song, won both the Christy and Gold Medallion awards for outstanding contemporary fiction in 2000. At the start he is the ultimate spoilt second son of an important family but as his circumstances change and he has to adapt his life you do see him questioning what he is doing, and he starts to get the feeling that he wants to protect Margarete no matter what the cost to him especially as the deception they are both trying to pull off gets complicated. It is 1941 in Berlin and an air raid has just dropped a bomb on the home of Herr and Frau Huber, killing them and their spoilt daughter, Annegrete. Wilhelm, the younger of the Huber brothers, was a complex character and my opinion of him swayed back and forth. It’s 1941 and World War II is raging on and Margarete Rosenbaum is working as a housemaid for a senior Nazi officer.

This was a particularly evil period with Germany ruling France, exploiting conquered citizens, and introducing its final solution in the extermination of all Jews.

However, as the series continues, Father Tim's life, even though more and more fulfilled, also becomes more and more stressful. I'm often irritated when I get to the end of a book only to realise that it was just part one of a longer novel. She loves to put her characters through the mangle, making them reach deep within to find the strength to face moral dilemma, make difficult decisions or fight for what is right.
