There are so many anecdotes and stories but also private details of his earlier debt, the problems encountered with moving house and more. We've seen his beginnings and his struggles to become noticed and now we get the story of his rise to fame and fortune. Since then Michael has become one of the most successful comedians in the world, with his tours selling over four million tickets. I know he is a comedian that people either seem to love or hate, something he talks about in this book. If you have seen his shows then while listening you can just imagine him doing his thing with his head bobbing.

Life has certainly been unusual, silly, and at times stressful for Michael, but above all it has been a funny life. During the coronavirus lockdown he created and hosted a new game show, The Wheel , which once again pulled in millions of viewers. It is extremely funny, as you would imagine but also poignant at times, especially when he talks about his professional relationship with Addison his agent, who built up his career. I bought the first autobiography in print years ago, but the over-saturation of McIntyre made it find its way to the back of the shelves and then into loft boxes fairly quickly. When I read Michael’s first book (which I only discovered this year), I was taken on a journey through his writing, laughing and crying. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Michael has had a silly life, a stressful life, sometimes a moving and touching life, but always A Funny Life . Michael McIntyre is a great storyteller and I could actually hear his voice in my head telling the tales, as I read.

He is an obsessive character, his ambition spurring him on to greater and greater heights, as with his runaway Saturday night success with Michael McIntyre's Big Show. Being such a huge fan of Michael over the years it was wonderful to see behind the curtain of his famous jokes, amazing performances and shows that I love so much.As I finished this book I don't feel like I know Michael himself anywhere near as well as you would expect after closing an autobiography. It was a nice read, though with the exception of Addison, I never really felt like there was much effort to dive beneath the surface. Anyway, “A Funny Life” is great – there are mixture of emotions; plenty of humour and jokes, but with further insights into Michael’s life.

The book is full of stories that will make you laugh out loud and other times when he is semi serious talking about his relationship with his agent Addison Cresswell. It was actually one of the parts I liked the most, where he discussed that period where he hadn't found his audience yet, or perhaps they hadn't found him.

What charities, how much do they raise, at what point do you know you are established enough to carry such a show? Although I find Michael McIntyre rather a visual comedian with his constant leaping around the stage this book still succeeded in giving me the impression he was talking directly to me. The book is quite interesting though as it charts his progress from regular employment, through the comedy scene and into the mainstream media. Becoming a success in any profession, let alone something as difficult as showbiz, is full of highs and a lot of lows, and he doesn’t ignore these. In the days before people know what to expect, when people know whether they want to seek you out or avoid you, performing can be a mixed bag.

It has certainly not been the easiest of journeys, his luck beginning to turn with an appearance at the Royal Variety Show, and even then it was not instant.Along the way he opens his man drawer, narrowly avoids disaster when his trousers fall down in front of three policemen and learns the hard way why he should always listen to his wife. I might be wrong, but in my opinion he now appears to have plateaued in his career, I am not a fan of his show, The Wheel, where to me it feels as if he is coasting on past glories.
