It seems likely, then, that we’ll have to wait several movies to even find out who ends up the last man standing, which puts even more pressure on episode one to find other points of interests – a tough call when your entire franchise is basically about waiting to discover the identity of the last guy to not have their head chopped off. The remakes were more polished and effective than the originals. The remakes probably featured better acting than the originals. The remakes had Colin Farrell and Joel Kinnaman – serious thesps these – while the originals had Arnold Schwarzenegger and Peter Weller, hardly perennial Oscars nominees. Yet everyone who has seen both films – the new and the old – will have left the screening for the remakes feeling as if every ounce of joy had been ruthlessly drained from their aching, bloodless bodies.

a b c Cinema Slap Fight: Sex And The City 2 Vs. Highlander II, by Pete Vonder Haar 21-09-2011, Houston Press The acting is generally pretty good, with most of the principal cast delivering a good performance. Clancy Brown is very good as the Kurgan, foreshadowing his equally villainous performance as Byron Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption. The make-up effects and costume work are very impressive, but it's Brown's sleazy demeanour and creepy delivery that really make the character stand out. Sean Connery looks the part as Ramirez, lending a lot of charm to the story, and Roxanne Heart does the best she can with an underwritten role. The one weak link is Christopher Lambert, who is essentially a pretty boy: his line deliveries are flat and he has very limited facial expressions. An average poster with overall fresh color. May have tears, minor paper loss, minor hazing. Paper may be brittle due to age, may have minor stains. May have a small amount of writing in an unobtrusive place. May have medium or major restoration.

Awarding the film one star out of five, Christopher Null of FilmCritic.com said, " Highlander has become a bit of a joke, and here's where the joke started... Incomprehensible doesn't even begin to explain it. This movie is the equivalent of the 'Hey, look over there!' gag. You look, and the guy you wanted to beat up has run away and hid [sic]."
