I was actually really happy with the original cut of the 2007 cut of Rise of the Footsoldier. I would never call this edition the director’s cut because I was happy with the cut at the time. I wasn’t forced by anybody, Optimum or Carnaby, to cut the original down..” a b "Rise of the Footsoldier: Part II Awards". IMDb (index only). 5 April 2016 . Retrieved 5 September 2023.

years ago Rise Of The Footsoldier was released redefining the British Gangster genre. Based on the true story of the brutal Rettendon triple murders in 1995, Rise Of The Footsoldier introduced viewers to the cut throat world of Essex organised crime. Now 5 years since it's release revisit the terraces of the east end with the new Limited Extreme Extended Edition Steelbook, featuring over 20 minutes of all new extreme footage and an all new commentary and interview with visionary Director Julian Gilbey. Rise of the Footsoldier: Extreme Edition is a bloodier, more boob-filled re-release of the 2007 cult classic gangster movie Rise of the Footsoldier . Before the series drove off the side of a cliff into Fast and Furious territory, when Craig Fairbrass took over the series as a coked up anti-hero, Rise of the Footsoldier was about the gruesome true story of notorious Essex gangsters who met a grisly end in the mid 90's. But the extremeness of this release doesn't bring any hidden gems or extended sequences that expand the story, just more the offcuts the BBFC probably thought were too violent at the time of release. There is a bit more sex, but it feels unnecessary and exploitative. Well more exploitative. The extra boobs aren't really used to show how large and out of control our characters were, but more to titillate the audience, which is fine (I am not here to kink shame), but it does lessen the impact of the overall story, especially in a low budget movie. It makes some scenes feel like soft-core porn. Signature Entertainment As of now, it is has not been confirmed whether Vengeance is intended to be the final film in the series.Akinbola, Daniel (14 September 2023). Nominees for the 8th annual National Film Awards 2022 announced". National Film Awards . Retrieved 20 April 2022.Rise of the Footsoldier: Extreme Edition is a lot of fun. It's loud, it's very crude and does have a few outstanding moments, especially for a low-budget British gangster film. But other than more Craig Fairbrass doing terrible things to people, the extra footage doesn't add all that much and in some ways lessens the impact of the tragedy that ultimately befalls those that live by the sword. Rise of the Footsoldier is a film that I always find to be hit and miss, it does fit into that typical British Gangster movie genre and has a story to tell which is both interesting and entertaining, if also disturbing. As Julian Gilbey says in his interview included in the special features it’s not a film for everybody but it’s one that does have its role to play in both his filmography and the genre it’s based in. I will admit to liking it, but especially in this extreme edition it does rely on violence a little too much which damages its impact to some degree, the characters can be a little bit too one dimensional at times and as mentioned this tends to make scenes less effective. If anything it can still sit with the likes of The Football Factory and Essex Boys as a more gritty style of gangster/hooliganism film and arguably one of the better ones. I think that the perfect cut of the Rise of the Footsoldier is probably I would say 2/3 the new cut, 1/3 the old cut. The truth of the matter is that there isn’t a perfect cut of it. Because it’s not perfect film but I celibate it for it’s imperfections..”
