Recasting was necessary and snooty Jeremy Crichton-Jones (Jonathan Cecil) and his pretty young debutante wife Susan (Gay Soper) were introduced as Wally and Lily’s new neighbours. Amidst a sea of washing lines and dustbins, the ever-present challenge for the Briggs’ to keep up with the Crichton-Joneses kept viewers laughing through 27 episodes of Romany Jones. I have no knowledge of ROMANY JONES but do remember YUS MY DEAR being vaguely amusing and the show was relatively popular when it was broadcast in 1976 . After seeing it again recently one can only wonder why ? Another sitcom from the London Weekend stable. Yus My Dear was the spin off sequel from the classic Romany Jones. It starred Arthur Mullard and Queenie Watts reprising their roles as Wally and Lilly Briggs. Yus, My Dear is a British sitcom that ran for nineteen episodes over two series in 1976 featuring Arthur Mullard and Queenie Watts in the lead roles. It was written by Ronald Chesney and Ronald Wolfe, and produced and directed by Stuart Allen for London Weekend Television. It was screened by ITV during 1976, and marked an early regular TV appearance of the comedian Mike Reid. The characters of Wally and Lily Briggs proved so successful that they were subsequently spun-off into their own series: Yus My Dear. They are still waring with each other, but are joined by Wally’s layabout brother, Benny (Mike Reid). Arfer”, looking like he’d been in a fight with a steam-hammer (and lost), played the lethargic, dim-witted Wally with such comic genius that he emerged as the star of the London Weekend television series.

Peter Hale as Jimmy, Wally and Lil's nephew. (Seen in episodes: "The Kid", "The Homework" and "The Repair".) In the first series, Benny has a girlfriend, the blowsy Molly (Valerie Walsh), to whom he becomes engaged, but the relationship falters in the second series.
