The Christmas version is very much the same game, just with some more seasonal tasks. It’s hilarious! And I love having it. Both games work for anyone in your group or family, from age six and up I would say. As long as every player can read the short text challenges by themselves, it will be fine. You really can’t help younger players read it, as then you will know what they are up to, but you could always play in pairs like we have done a few times. There’s never anything that will make anyone too uncomfortable or embarrassed – assuming you don’t go overboard in your efforts to get someone to hit or kiss you – though some are so specific (“Get a player to tie a knot in a balloon”) or dependent on certain situations that it might be worth introducing a mulligan or curated selection of sorts into the deliberately loose rules if you won’t be seeing the other players regularly or in more places than a prop-free office. With a clever use of individual plastic wallets for each player to store their secret objectives in and satisfyingly flip them over to their bright red and green reverse when nailed or failed, Don’t Get Got! does everything it needs to do to set the stage for the players’ own amusement – how long its novelty will last for you will depend on your own where, when and who involved. The aim OF Don’t Get Got – Christmas Edition is to “get” your friends and family in your carefully laid traps. The winner is the first person to manage to pull off 3 of their 6 missions successfully. It simply is as easy as that. The awesome thing is that this is a metagame that you play whilst enjoying playing a different game or whilst opening presents or eating Christmas dinner. It is more of an experience than a typical game. What I can guarantee is a bunch of deep belly laughs whilst spending time with your friends. Whether you win or lose, the game is a journey. With the right group (the bigger the better) of those willing to commit over an evening party, week away on holiday or months spent pulling pranks at school (or work), it’s a fun and silly way to liven life up a bit. Sometimes, that’s just what you need.

I am a big eco-warrior, and so the recent drive-by Big Potato to remove the plastic from their games has been really welcome to me. The box is small, no bigger really than it needs to be. The cards are held together with a small paper loop rather than being shrink-wrapped, and the cardboard insert keeps the cards snug and safe in the box. The box has this dazzling Christmas glitzy vibe on it. Nothing is more festive than a sparkly box with a Christmas tree on the front! Most importantly, don’t forget the golden rule: if another player says “Guess What?”, never, ever say “What”.No matter where you are or what you’re doing, you’ll always need to keep your wits about you… because there’s no telling what the other players might be planning. Don’t Get Got! is a less a game and more a ready-made excuse-in-a-box for friends looking to mess with each other – for points! The game works so well playing alongside other games and even just your everyday life. You don’t just sit there and play it. That would make it pretty obvious that everything you are doing is part of the game. You try and catch the other players out over the course of a few hours, days, weeks even. We had once had a game last five days until my son finally caught me out with his final task as I was distracted learning the rules of another game!

I’ll be honest, I was a little apprehensive at first. Feeling that this was a little bit too out there and I was worried that people may not be willing to get involved. Or may lose interest throughout the game duration. I think the fact that this runs alongside whatever you plan to do for the event or party means that this loss of interest is completely negated. People will still have it on their minds and will still be involved. However, won’t be tied to just playing the game. This also enables many a funny moment to occur when people are caught out doing something completely unrelated to the task! It works like a competitive multiplayer version of social scavenger hunt Sneaky Cards, giving each player six missions to try and ‘nail’ before anyone else – all without a hard-and-fast time limit. Try too hard, get called out on an attempt and you’ll ‘fail’ instead, making it tougher to complete the very reasonable three needed to win. (One is the evergreen prank of getting someone to reply “What?” to “Guess what?” so there’s always a way to score a cheap point.) Don’t Get Got - Christmas Edition is pretty simple, there are simply 100 cards and a leaflet of rules. The instructions on each mission are clear and really leave no ambiguity which is exactly what you need when the secret information on the card is exactly the game. Each mission is different and unexpected and that is why the game works so well because you can so easily be “got”. So I'm coming to you folks - What are some funny missions that we could add into the game? We only ask that it 1. Is Covid safe, meaning that we don't want anything that requires guests to touch, be close together or remove their masks. 2. Is appropriate for small groups, since this is a tiny wedding with only family. And 3. Won't scandalize our mothers.

A game to play anytime, anywhere

The idea behind Don’t Get Got! is a simple one. Everyone is given six random and unique tasks and a plastic wallet to keep them safe (it even works if it gets lost in a bin, trust me!). This edition comes with more wallets than the original, meaning ten players can now join in on the fun. To help make the game as fun as possible these can be swapped at the start if any are genuinely impossible to achieve. Like most party games, Don’t Get Got has a very simple premise. Don’t get got! You are given a series of tasks, ranging from the strange to the outright weird! For example, make up a word and get another player to ask what it means. Get another player to try and touch their nose with their tongue. That type of thing. If you complete all your missions first, you win. If someone asks you if what you are doing is part of the game, you fail that particular mission. The almost 200 possible assignments are cheeky instead of malicious: convince someone that your bog-standard lamp is now voice-activated, draw on someone without being caught, get someone to join in with a song you’re singing.

Overall, this edition of Don’t Get Got! is an outright winner. The missions are superb and everyone I have played with loved it. I have no doubt that this will be a bank holiday staple, and I frankly can’t wait to play over Christmas and New Year. I was worried at first if people would really enjoy this, however, everyone was really throwing themselves into it. The tasks are just the right level of challenging and with almost no setup time this is perfect for almost all gatherings. Don’t Get Got! can be played while pretty much anything else is going on and works best when people are doing other stuff. From an office party to a weekend away, there isn’t really any setting where it doesn’t work.That’s it! It is so simple but so hilariously fun. Due to its success, there is a brilliant festive edition, the Don’t Get Got – Christmas Edition which brings in such challenges as getting another player to eat a raw Brussel Sprout and getting another player to play Last Christmas by Wham twice in the same day! You know, the one that goes Last Christmas, I gave you my art, and the very next day, you gave it away. That’s how it goes, right? Don’t Get Got isn’t a party game to play for 30 minutes. The game continues all day if you want it to. You can start the ball rolling at the offset and catch people out throughout the day. The winner is the first player to successfully complete three of their tasks. If this doesn’t happen, the player with the most succeeded when time runs out or all players tasks are finished is the winner. It is rare that players haven’t completed at least one of their challenges at this point, so everyone will have some sense of achievement – with the winner able to gloat that bit extra.

Shut Up and Sit Down have a huge loyal following on YouTube with over 300,000 followers due to their quirky review style. If anyone gets Don’t Get Got, it’s got to be the team from Shut up and Sit Down. Got it? If however, you are in process of attempting to get another player to complete the task and they ask you if its part of the game, you’ve failed, and must switch the card to the “Failed It” side, something that you really don’t want to happen! The tasks offered up by the game have a fantastic variety.My fiancé and I are getting married in late April and plan to host a game of Don't Get Got during our reception. It seems like a great way of encouraging people to interact, starting up some odd conversations and giving us an excuse to hand out a couple prizes at the end of the night. Just like it says in the heading, the mission is simple. So simple, it is the title. Don’t Get Got! I don’t want to spoil many of the cards for you, but I will give you a taster of what you can expect. There are some that are heavily Christmas themed. For example “get a player to tell you their favourite Christmas song and then get them to sing it”. And some are not festive at all, like “get a player to take some food off your plate”. The winner, as stipulated in the rulebook, so the first person to complete three tasks, however on each occasion I have played this, we have just let the game run as you’ll find some people will find it very easy to do three in no time at all! It’s a very simple premise but is it one that lets this game flourish? My Thoughts
