Separate Fiber Bundles– if your project is larger or smaller than a standard star ceiling kit can cover. Add on Effects for our Fiber Optic Star Ceilings Please do take care while working at a height by carrying the tasks out in a safe manner. At least two people are required for the installation; for larger panels, you may need additional help. Star kits should only be installed on dry and smooth surfaces. Wet surfaces (including fresh paint) contain moisture that could short circuit the light engine. Lay your panel down flat on top of a table and take a moment to clean the panel. No doubt by now your panel is full of lint, foam bits and dust. Take a lint roller and go over the entire surface, it worked really well on mine to clean the panel of debris. In most kits, the light source of choice is the low wattage quartz halogen LS. Semi-custom kits use Quartz Halogen or HID. Most FTI solutions incorporate LED light sources for the convenience of our customers. LED light sources have a long life, some of over 50,000 hours, so there is no need for the inconvenience and cost of replacing bulbs frequently. LEDs are also beneficial to the customer’s safety considerations as they produce very little heat and typically require only a 5 – 12V power supply. I know for a fact I will utilize some sort of professional installation team just so I don’t have to worry about messing up the electrical connections when doing this. Everyone’s situation is different and the layout of your house determines how difficult it’ll be.

As long as the LED-based light source is accessible, the actual glowing fibre ends can be anywhere, up on a high ceiling, cast permanently into a concrete floor or wall or built in to a staircase to illuminate the risers or treads.LED Lighting

A lot of people like to put LED lights around the frame of their ceiling to make the stars really pop out and give it a more modern vibe. The possibilities are literally endless with how elaborate you can make them. I’ve seen videos of people who even put them in the ceiling of their car!

Holes drilled in the ceiling accept individual fiber strands. The other end of the fiber is collected in a common input, terminated, and inserted into a light source. The light source is placed in the ceiling or in a nearby closet. LED, Quartz halogen, and HID light sources are typical light sources for star ceilings.

Project Steps

I centrally located the projector in the ceiling and hung the fiber bundle end that attaches to the projector in this area before routing the fibers to each sheet, thus ensuring I would have enough length to install the fibers in the sheets and manipulate the sheets into place later. Be sure to add an opening in the Luan to access the projector. This opening can be covered with a piece of felt and Velcroed to the Luan. Make sure to give yourself enough of an opening to provide easy access to the projector.

With your panels in place just evenly spray the felt and let it dry. That's all there is to it! Just make sure you don't get it on anything else or in your eyes. The light source, too, affects its appearance. Choose from white light or colour changing light or, alternatively, go for a special twinkling star effect to really mimic the stars outside. Where can I put a fibre optic star ceiling? With your panels in place, evenly spray the felt and let it dry. That’s all there is to it! Just make sure you don’t get it on anything else or in your eyes. The next step is to create the holes for your stars. But first, you have to clear away insulation from the top of the ceiling. I have the blown-in insulation, which is a little harder to move around than the sheet-style. It also breaks up easier, gets in your skin and lungs and causes death. Or at least... you'll itch really badly and have a nasty raspy cough. So, do this when your attic is somewhat cool so you can wear jeans and a long flannel. I started this during the hottest July that North Texas has seen in decades. My first trip up there (120* heat) was brief, which also describes my attire. Hoo hah! Anyway, 30 m Fibre optics can also be used in a huge range of other innovative lighting applications, both indoors and out. If access above the proposed star ceiling is restricted or non-existent, then it is possible to fibre plasterboards at ground level (or indeed panels of other materials such as mdf or plywood) and then fix them to the ceiling. Suitable for various spaces: Whether it's a nursery, children's bedroom, living room, cinema room, bathroom, bedroom, or office our starry night ceiling panels are ideal for adding a touch of magic and ambiance to any area.
