You get a proper pentaprism viewfinder, unlike the cheaper and smaller pentamirror designs on low-end rival cameras and the KF even offers interchangeable focusing screens, which is a real blast from the past. The PENTAX KF employs the Hybrid AF system during Live View autofocus operation. By positioning a contrast-detection AF sensor with superior focusing accuracy and a phase-matching AF sensor on the image sensor's surface, this innovative hybrid system optimizes the benefits of both AF systems to assure high-speed, pinpoint AF focusing on the subject. The live view is both unusual and useful in the context of a DSLR, but the shunting and clanking as the mirror is moved out of the way reminds you that this is not a DSLR’s natural environment. The live view AF is adequate but not the fastest when tested with Pentax’s 55mm f/1.4 SDM lens, but pretty painful with screw-driven lenses, as is the viewfinder AF. Modification: "Modification" means performing alternations or making additions to the licensed software, or creating separate software that makes use of all or a portion of the licensed software. The PENTAX KF provides continuous shooting of high-resolution images (approximately 24.24 effective megapixels, 14-bit data files) at a top speed of approximately six images per second, allowing you to preserve the action or expression of the subject in a series of images up to 40 JPEG-format images* in single sequence.

The Digital Camera Utility (DCU) software which used to be included on a CD is now in the camera, from where it can be uploaded to your computer. Since the PENTAX KF’s image sensor unit is designed to tilt in all directions, it provides a host of additional, special shooting functions, including ASTROTRACER, which simplifies advanced astronomical photography in combination with the optional O-GPS2 GPS Unit; and Auto Horizon Correction and Extra Sharpness functions. P-TTL, Leading Curtain Sync, Trailing Curtain Sync, Contrast-control-sync, High-speed sync, Wireless sync Inside, the KF uses Pentax’s long-running and effective SR Shake Reduction system – Pentax is still the only maker to build IBIS into a DSLR. The SR system doesn’t just cut camera shake, it also offers ‘anti-aliasing simulation’ to help combat moiré in fine patterns and textures – though that’s not a particularly common issue.AUTO WB, Multi Auto WB, Daylight, Shade, Cloudy, Fluorescent Light (Daylight Color), Fluorescent Light (Daylight White), Fluorescent Light (Cool White), Fluorescent Light (Warm White), Tungsten Light, CTE (Color Temperature Enhancement), Manual WB, Color Temperature Configuration, Copying the white balance setting of a capture image High-speed shutter unit with a top speed of 1/6000 second, and high-speed continuous shooting function at a top speed of approximately six images per second ・ Self-timer function, compatible with the continuous shooting function D-FA 70-210 f/4 for long reach (yes, that IS the Tamron tripod-collar attached to the lens) (also 1.4x Rear Converter, for 300mm, if desired). AND, this lens is BOTH internal-zoom, and internal-focus, so the length remains constant, and the balance never changes. F4, with modern cameras, is PLENTY wide enough for any average "happy-snapper" . . . . . Pixel-Peepers feel free to disagree, but then, i don't care much for the extremist opinions of pixel-peepers. The Pentax KF’s digital SLR design means it has an optical viewfinder with one focusing system (an 11-point SAFOX AF system) and a rear screen with a different one. In live view you get hybrid phase/contrast AF which should give much faster and more effective autofocus than the contrast-only AF on other Pentax DSLR bodies, though this will depend on the lens. RICOH IMAGING COMPANY, LTD A assumes no responsibility under any circumstance for direct or indirect damage or damage from ripple effects that occurs from using the licensed software, for damage to data, programs, or other intangible properties, or for loss of usage benefits and lost profits.

Until we get to test the KF you can consult our in-depth review of the K-70 here since the two cameras are almost identical. Image Rotation, Color Moiré Correction, Resize, Cropping (Aspect ratio and Slant adjustment available), Movie Edit (Divide or delete selected frames), Capturing a JPEG still picture from a movie, Saving RAW data in buffer memory, Image Copy The Pentax KF is a very compact for a DSLR, and it feels great in the hand with a deep, secure grip. It features weather-resistant and dustproof construction, making it a solid choice for outdoor photographers shooting in inclement weather or dirty locations like the beach where blowing sand can be a problem with unprotected cameras. The PENTAX KF employs the Hybrid AF system during Live View autofocus operation. By positioning a contrast-detection AF sensor with superior focusing accuracy and a phase- matching AF sensor on the image sensor’s surface, this innovative hybrid system optimizes the benefits of both AF systems to assure high-speed, pinpoint AF focusing on the subject. For our lab data comparison, we compared theKF to the its most closely-matched DSLR rivals in terms of price: the Canon EOS 850D, and the Nikon D7500. The EOS 90D would have been a better match in terms of market positioning, but it's significantly pricier than both the KF and D7500. Finally, we included the Fujifilm X-T30 II as an example of what roughly the same money can buy if you're willing to go mirrorless.

Pentax made the decision to skip the anti aliasing filter for the Pentax KF. This will result in more clearer photographs but might create moire in certain circumstances. If it’s a high resolution Pentax camera you need above all else, you’ll be pleased to learn that this medium format option handles a bit like a bigger version of Pentax’s K-3 DSLR – which means it’s not overly daunting for those making the step up.

Finally, Ricoh is switching the included battery charger to a USB-C model. This is a welcomed change, but a bit of an interesting choice considering the camera itself still uses a Micro USB port, meaning the charger that comes with the camera is more future-proof than the camera itself. Richo is also including the utility software directly on the camera, instead of separately on a CD in the box (something it first did with its K-3 III DSLR).

You had KP for long time to upgrade to, seems it did not worked so upgraded and more expensive KF would not work either. You are of course right the K-3 iii would be a real upgrade, as the KF is just the follow up. Super-high-resolution images captured with approximately 24.24 effective megapixels and at ISO 102400 The Skin Tone correction function makes compensation only when the camera detects a face in the image. Using the built-in PENTAX-original SR (Shake Reduction) mechanism, the PENTAX KF effectively minimizes camera shake and delivers sharp, blur-free images, even in challenging, shake-prone conditions such as when using a telephoto lens, shooting low-light scenes with ambient light only, or photographing sunset scenes. Using a high-accuracy gyro sensor, it provides a compensation effect of 4.5 shutter steps, similar to top-of-the-line PENTAX models. With a panning shot, the sensor mechanism automatically detects the direction of the camera’s movement and controls the SR unit to produce the best image possible. The KF also includes several new custom image modes for interesting in-camera special effects, and it ships with a USB to USB-C connector similar to the one provided with the top-level Pentax K-3 Mark III. Interestingly, the camera no longer ships with a CD, because the software is now built into the camera, and readily accessible when the KF is connected to a computer. The PENTAX KF provides a selection of 14 Custom Image modes,* which can be applied to your image to produce the desired finishing touch. You can develop a captured imaged using the default settings, or adjust various parameters including saturation, shade, key, contrast and sharpness. Parameter adjustment of a captured image can be performed at any sensitivity setting without compromising the original image. Based on the default Custom Image settings, you can freely adjust parameters to apply the desired finishing touch to your image. Maximum compensation angle: approx. ±1.5°with SR mechanism turn off, or approx. ±1° with SR mechanism activated I think that, since the other manufacturers moved to mirrorless, Pentax's niche is getting smaller. Because those other manufacturers have had IBIS for some time as well now, and are starting to add features to it. Pixel shift and horizon correction come to mind.
