With the owner of Agnew's in hospital after having her appendix removed, her seventeen-year-old daughter Donna is in charge. She is sure that it is just the latest prank by the owners of Simmons Pork Pie Palace which is just across the street, They have wanted to steal Agnew's business and reputation since they opened. It doesn't help that Donna and the Simmons son Toby had dated for a while. Their adventure is getting deadlier with every destination, but these two sleuths are not going to be put off. With Rex’s keen sense of smell and Albert’s decades of experience as a detective, this pair are on the trail. Overall, Pork Pie Pandemonium is a fun story. The circumstances surrounding the incident in the pie shop are mysterious and more dangerous than initially believed. Rex is quite a character himself, often providing some comedy with his antics, but never to the detriment of the story. Mystery fans and dog lovers will be sure to enjoy this book and will be looking forward to reading the rest of the series. About the Author

As a retired detective, Albert naturally starts collecting clues together as his instincts feel something sinister is going on. However, his son, a chief inspector, feels there is no link between the two events. This story starts with a bored, retired Detective Superintendent Albert Smith and his dog Rex Harrison; who can talk, sadly no one can hear him no, matter how hard he tries. Rex is a failed police dog who has issues with obedience. To be honest, as soon as I read that I just knew that this was going to be a brilliant book!Denying to believe in coincidence, Albert and Rex prepare to discover why her accident is the second terrible event in two days. It appears something is baking in Bakewell, and it’s not the ingredients of the famous dessert.

He’ll pitch in to help his human and the shop owner’s teenage daughter as the trio set out to save the shop from closure. Is the rival pork pie shop across the street to blame? Or is there something far more sinister going on? However, solving a few mysteries won’t get them out of trouble, for there is a master criminal behind many of the crimes they encounter, and they’ve just caught his attention. Arbroath, a town in Scotland up the eastern Scottish coast northeast of Dundee, is famous for its smoked herring (smokies). Albert and Rex head there because of a photograph including the Master Gastrothief's two henchmen who met their demise in a prior episode. Although that clue didn't yield any answers, there was murder and corruption in high places which Albert was determined to solve. This book had me on the edge of my seat to find out what happened including Rex's ongoing battle with the seagulls. It was a great mystery but Albert figured it out with help from his B&B landlady and other townsfolk. The ending was a cliffhanger with another kidnapping. Meanwhile Albert & Rex arrived heading for Dundee. One thing is for sure, what started out as a bit of fun, is getting deadlier by the hour, and they’d better work out what the dog knows soon or it could be curtains for them all. I liked that Albert is 78 and quite a bit slower and creakier than he was in his working days. He's experiencing some memory issues and, at one point in the story, gets lost while doing some investigating. He also, like many of us older adults, finds himself in a crucial situation with a cellphone in need of a charge. I really like his relationship with Rex who has quite a mind of his own and who gets a chance to use his training in the story. One year after the passing of his wife, a retired police superintendent Albert decides to fulfill his wife’s wish by learning how to cook. He plans on doing it his way by traveling around and getting skills in preparing various dishes. Albert has a lot of dishes to explore throughout the journey. Everywhere he goes, there turns out to be a body or two, and he lets his dog Rex help hunt the culprit.

I'm so glad Rex caught my attention while scrolling on Kindle Unlimited. Rex brought wonderful memories of the forever pawprints on my heart of Nikki, a German Shepherd that needed a different forever home. My father said that different home was ours and brought her home. Albert and Rex are off to Bakewell, and I look forward to their next adventure! His dog, Rex Harrison, an ex-police dog fired for having a bad attitude, cannot understand why the humans are struggling to solve the mystery. He can already smell the answer – it’s right before their noses. There is only one negative comment I have about this book. Too many points-of-view were confusing. Donna, Albert, and Rex were all showing their point-of-view at the same time, instead of just one at a time per chapter. If the author hadn't put each of their names in the paragraphs, I would not have known who was thinking what. I've never read a book with so many points-of-view without a break in the paper, like asterisks between the paragraphs. I'm just saying, that this multiple viewpoint made me read other books at the same time, just so I could get my brain refocused.Everything that began as fun is getting more deadly with time, and they have to work out what the dog knows soon enough, or it could take a different turn. They have to identify the owner of the thumb before taking any other step. It is even more, easier because it has a unique tattoo on it. Rex, Albert, and Donna visit the tattoo parlors, trying to identify the thumb’s owner. Coming from the author of the Patricia Fisher cruise mysteries, it is no surprise that this is also a fast, fun read. Let's start this off with an invitation to get some FREE books. No, you didn't read that wrong, we are talking about multiple free books. I love giving away free books because once people delve into the fast-paced mystery thrills I write, they go on to buy lots more. Things take a different turn when a thumb is discovered on one of the meats piles the class members were supposed to use to make the pies. He finds a clue to a crime when he thinks of getting skills. As the owner is in hospital after getting appendix surgery, her teenage daughter, Donna, is running the Agnew’s. She believes it’s one of the latest pranks pulled by owners of the Simmons pork pie across the alleyway.
