About this deal

If you haven’t seen one of these screens in the flesh then you won’t know that they feel VERY delicate! I’ve also heard multiple reports of the glass layers on the front of the screen slipping off – so wrapping this thing in a lovely chunk of plastic is my first priority. Would you regard this as 'fatal' as Bengt says? Or could you do a simple work-around by using a male-female short extension USB-C cord from the RPi board to the power port hole in the case, after unsoldering the Argon One port?

The ASUS ZenScreen sets itself apart from the other screens in our list in that it’s designed for portability, a boon for mobile Pi projects and users that want a media station they can easily carry around. Passively cooling the Raspberry Pi, the performance is similar to Pimoroni’s version. But adding the fans drops the temperatures significantly and the combined cooling this case can keep your Pi cool under load for a full day. As for interfacing with the Raspberry Pi, the ASUS ZenScreen uses either HDMI or USB Type-A/Type-C. As the ASUS ZenScreen isn’t designed specifically for the Raspberry Pi, there’s no integrated mounting mechanism, so expect to have your Pi sitting alongside the screen when it’s in use. Among the easiest but most satisfying Raspberry Pi projects is a retro gaming console. There’s no shortage of means to accomplish this feat, from RetroPie to Recalbox or Lakka, and even a roll-your-own method. While Nintendo’s NES Classic Mini is a neat console, a Raspberry Pi offers greater functionality through additional emulators, more ROMs, and the ability to serve other purposes, such as doubling as an HTPC. However, the NES does come in an original Nintendo shell. With the Retroflag NESPi Case, you can transform your Pi into an NES Classic clone. Bonus points for working power and reset buttons. Additionally, the bottom of the console features a microSD card holder. However, note that the reset and power buttons simply cut the power, performing a hard shutdown. Therefore, you may consider properly shutting down your Raspberry Pi. Nevertheless, this is a fantastic case for the Pi that will let you game in style. In confined enclosures it is possible for a Pi to overheat. The conditions needed are that the heat generation while running at 600 MHz along with other components is greater than the dissipation of heat from the enclosure.A cooling fan is included to keep everything at the ideal operating temperature, which is fitted with the included rubber anti-vibration mounts to minimise fan noise. While we’re underwhelmed by the official Raspberry Pi Case for Raspberry Pi 4, it may protect the Pi but it fails to keep the Pi cool even with the well designed cooling provided by the official fan kit. The Pi Foundation’s official case for Pi Zero is an excellent choice. The plastic case is made from red and white plastic that match the official Raspberry Pi color scheme so purists will be happy with the aesthetic. The Miuzei Raspberry Pi 4 Touchscreen with Case & Fan is an excellent all-in-one solution: case, cooling solution, and screen all bundled into one. I have various other bits of tech on board that do get seriously hot...Fridge compressor for example...For that, I use a simple 12v computer fan which is thermostatically controlled to extract heat from the enclosure with the compressor in...That works well. You could perhaps do something like that to empty the heat from the enclosure...Those sort of fans are very cheap. The 5V low power requirements is another highlight, with the Elecrow 5 Inch Raspberry Pi Touchscreen Display sourcing enough power to run from either the GPIO pins on the Pi or micro-USB port with any standard Pi power supply.

There is also a second set of threaded inserts to mount your own development board or another piece of hardware. Perfect for an industrial or commercial application where you want to add your own development board to the case.

Whilst I do have some fun project ideas for the screen, I can’t do any of that until I sort out some decent protection for it. The Elecrow 5 Inch Raspberry Pi Touchscreen Display isn’t the most impressive or expensive Raspberry Pi touch screen out there, but that’s why we like it so much: it’s affordable yet has an excellent quality display equipped with everything required for a large variety of projects.

With a massive 15.5-inch touchscreen display, a 1080p resolution, and a long-lasting in-built battery, the ASUS ZenScreen takes the crown as one of the best portable Raspberry Pi screens on the market. The hefty asking price may put off some, though.Having said that, experimenting with heatsinks and fans is fun - even when you know perfectly well that they are not actually needed. But like others have said...It's probably worth doing some testing to see if any additional cooling is actually needed. One of the advantages of ARM over Intel is that they are far more efficient and hence produce less heat. How many mobile phones do you know of that have fans?
