About this deal

Energy Performance data and Internal floor area: obtained on January 31, 2023 from The Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations 2007 or the Home Report if in relation to a residential property in Scotland. Occasionally parts of the book cutaway to a book within the book written by one of the characters. These parts were confusing at best and maybe it's just my ARC, but it was hard to determine when they were starting and ending. They had a Lovecraftian type of vibe going on and I wanted more of them and less of annoying Esme. In fact, Esme knows about Julia and Benedict's sexual encounters BEFORE all this shit goes down and Benedict finds out about his wife's affair. And Esme literally sat on this information for weeks before saying something. What I really liked in this book is the prose within the prose. During the course of the story, the chief character (I am deliberately not calling her the protagonist, or the antagonist, if you know what I mean! And that is all you're going to get from my review as far as spoilers are concerned!) reads a bestselling fantasy novel penned by one of her neighbors. The author has done a good job to relate it to the main storyline. I don’t want to spill much about the secrets, that is the best part of reading this book! I will say this—I definitely wouldn’t want to live in this cul-de-sac. These people have a lot of baggage and are a bit too involved with one another! But I certainly enjoyed grabbing my popcorn and learning all of the juicy, sordid details of this group who are quite frankly closer than neighbors should be!

I adored the diverse neighborhood and characters, chiefly, the lyrical prose from Author Torn Grace. From a former model, a chef, an author, real estate agent, a former movie star, an artist, plus more. The information on housing, people, culture, employment and education that is displayed about Raven Lane, Ludlow, SY8 1BW is based on the last census performed in the UK in 2021. I would never live in a neighborhood like Raven Lane. Those people were just asking for the troubles they found. Drinking and drugging with the neighbors on a monthly basis? Ridiculous, and everything that befell them should have been no surprise.

The accommodation throughout the property is particularly light and spacious with exceptional ceiling heights. Upon entering the property, you are welcomed to a wonderfully spacious open plan living/dining area which has beautiful wooden flooring throughout and an inglenook wood burning stove. The kitchen/breakfast room is fully fitted with integrated units and appliances including a cooker with gas hobs. There is a cloakroom with WC to service the ground floor. On the lower ground floor, there is a utility room with units and plumbing for washing facilities. There is a family room/snug adjacent ideal for a variety of uses. On the first floor, there are two spacious double bedrooms both enjoying the wonderful exposed beams the property has to offer and lead lit windows. A family bathroom services the first floor. On the second floor, there are two further bedrooms, also serviced by a bathroom. All of the rooms boast great storage with integrated cupboards and space in the eaves. It lasted five days, in the month of March. Then, it was over. During that time, the afflicted were unreachable. Writers, artists and performers were imprisoned in their own minds, unable to speak or seemingly hear anything in the world around them. Some reached for weapons. Hundreds died by their own hand and no one could do anything to stop them. It ended just as suddenly as it began. We thought it was over. We didn’t realize that something had been embedded in us. Something that was waiting for its chance to emerge. Wayleaves, easements and rights of way: The property will be sold subject to and with the benefits of all wayleaves, easements and rights of way, whether mentioned in these sales particulars or not.Domestic draaaaaaaaaaama! This close cul-de-sac of Raven Lane has quite the characters. When one of them, Torn, dies in an accident, Benedict is now on trial for hitting him with his car. Once it's realized he wasn't entirely sober, this accident becomes a torrid insight to the lives of everyone on Raven Lane. When I read Lovecraft, I got scared, but it took me years to figure out what was really frightening me. Even as a kid, I believed that Lovecraft was only partially right. I think that monsters do exist, but not in another dimension or a far-flung place that no one has explored yet. I think that each of us has a monster inside of us that we spend our lives trying to contain.” The purpose of referencing the hit TV series in comparison to Raven Lane—I think there are some parallels and especially if you are a fan of the show, this current Season 5, which is moody, dangerous, sexier, and edgier than previous seasons. In the aftermath of horrific events, characters try to come to terms with the consequences of their choices, similar to the characters in RAVEN LANE. I also loved that there was a book within a book! The neighbor that dies is an author and Cowie included paragraphs from his book into Raven Lane. I always enjoy when an author does that, and it gave this one a little something extra. The only thing I am a little confused by is the fact this is marketed as a mystery/thriller since I found it to be more of a drama, and there isn't really all that much mystery to it besides the secrets people are hiding. What I didn't like was the inaccurate legal element. NO lawyer would give legal advice of this nature. It's unethical to do so. Instead, if a real lawyer were trying to guide his clients this way, he would be far less obvious about it and he would protect himself from liability. As a lawyer, I cannot help but cringe when i read books like this.

The snug boasts a large inglenook fireplace with oak mantle over and inset wood-burning stove. The front aspect windows to dining hall and snug over-look the quiet street. There is an original antique window set into a beamed wall linking to the kitchen area. The kitchen floor is herringboned tiled. It is well equipped with a range of shaker style floor and wall units, an eye level oven, large pan drawers and, halogen hob with cooker hood over; a window looks to the winter snug. From the small rear porch a French door and paned window open onto a well maintained and private small courtyard garden.

As domestic dramas go, this was a fun one to be a part of. While some things might not have worked completely for me, I was eagerly awaiting for more secrets to come to light. And remember y'all - we all have monsters inside of us - one way or the other. *wink* I'd also like to point out that the only reason Esme even knew about Julia and Benedict is because Torn told her because he WITNESSED it. Hello, why is no one freaking out about this? Multiple adults know and no one is acting like this is a big deal. It's even heavily hinted throughout the book that Zoe is aware something is up between her dad and her fellow teenage neighbor. Former model Benedict Werner now co-owns a modeling agency while his wife, Esme, a talented chef, owns the successful restaurant Dix-Neuf; they both adore their brilliant 17-year-old daughter, Zoe. Along with the other residents of Raven Lane, they form a tight-knit group. Frequent parties, mostly hosted by real estate agent Kitty Dagostino (who keeps a tight rein on who gets to buy a house on the street), keep things interesting and friendships thriving. However, the ties that bind them begin to fray when Benedict hits bestselling novelist Torn Grace with his car when pulling out of his driveway. Benedict didn’t see Torn coming around the corner on his bicycle, and Torn wasn’t wearing his helmet. Numerous witnesses, including Esme, insist it was an accident, never mind the wine Benedict consumed before getting into the car and, as it’s later discovered, the MDMA pills he popped before coming home that night. When Torn dies from his injuries, his husband, Aaron, is devastated. So is Esme, whose passionate affair with Torn ended in dramatic fashion shortly before the accident. When Esme and Torn’s affair is revealed to the police, Benedict is arrested and swiftly charged with second degree murder. Events spiral into an all-out circus when the media discovers Esme’s past as a rising movie star whose career was cut short by scandal. Cowie ( Rapid Falls, 2018) alternates past and present to tell the story of a woman who feels that she’s compromised herself for the men in her life, but her characters are thinly drawn, and she frequently resorts to melodrama to heighten the tension. Excerpts of Torn’s claim to fame, the Lovecraft-inspired novel The Call, which Esme reads to comfort herself in the wake of Torn’s death, are more distracting than illuminating, and a wildly implausible twist in the final act may cause some eyes to roll. This book is described perfectly: it is not a mystery, and implying otherwise would be doing this book a disservice. Rather, this story is a slow burn as the Raven Lane residents' monstrous secrets are exposed.London 1: The City of London: City of London v. 1 (Pevsner Architectural Guides: Buildings of England) Raven Lane is the second domestic suspense by author, Amber Cowie. I loved her first standalone, Rapid Falls and couldn't wait for her next novel. Raven Lane did not disappoint! The fiction book within this book was unique. Dealing with the theme of monsters who've heard "the call", the fiction book paralleled and foreshadowed the events of the primary book. I definitely appreciated this literary device, and I found it effective.
