Description

This segues beautifully with two other attributes of the Triangle, one of which should be useful for pretty much everyone and another that has some long term potential. The first is that the sensitivity of the Triangle is genuinely impressive. The Rega Brio never breaks sweat driving it pretty much at any level that could be classed as domestically acceptable. If having been short of gain with existing speakers, the BR03 offers scope to eke out more headroom without increasing the power on hand to do it. First of all, I want to talk about design. TRIANGLE‌ is known for sleek, sexy, speakers, and the BOREA BR03 bookshelf is that. The dark Walnut finish I received is super classy, plus the silver accents around the woofer and tweeter make them look more expensive than they are. Ohms is pretty much the standard nominal impedance amongst stereo speakers and amplifiers so Triangle Borea BR02 is not considered a difficult to drive speaker from nominal Impedance perspective.

To achieve this, each speaker relies on a conventional two-way system consisting of a 25mm fabric dome tweeter and a 13cm paper driver, supported by a bass reflex port. There’s no connection option for this line of speakers, but a wide variety of wired connections are available, as well as the ever-popular Bluetooth connection. Connectivity I performed over 1000 measurement which resulted in error rate below 1% for most of the except around 2 kHz where it crept up to 2% error. Sound field got quite complex there suggesting multiple sources than just the two drivers (diffraction, etc.). Borea BR03 features Binding post type posts and Borea BR02 has a Binding post type posts. None of these speakers feature bi-amping/bi-wiring.

The connection and operation system between the two speakers is more dated. The right speaker is indeed controlled by the left speaker, which governs the pair, the whole being connected by an excellent old speaker cable, to be fixed on the terminals of each speaker. Although it’s not a question of connectivity, wireless connectivity is also reduced to a simple solution when we could expect a little more modernity. Only a Bluetooth receiver is integrated with support for the aptX HD, Low Latency, AAC and SBC codecs. No multipoint, by the way. Audio The tweeter, meanwhile, utilises a design that's common throughout the Borea range. We experienced it last year in the Borea BR03 standmounters, and here it features the same unusual two-pronged phase plug, claimed to aid tonal evenness and dispersion. There’s an element of horn loading of the dome, too, due to the dished tweeter surround.

In overall terms, these Triangles are exceptional, and certainly good enough to challenge the very best at this price. They’re happy playing all genres of music and do it with a charm that’s addictive. We advise listening to them before buying any other floorstanders at this price. You’ll be thankful you did. One thing that may help with ported speakers like the BR02 is that if your favorite position yields a bit to much bass response a little selective light damping in the port can help “tune” them a bit to your room. I’ve used that methodology with my BR02s. Use fabric for tuning if you go that route as fiberglass insulation can release small fibers into the air that can damage your lungs. Now some unfortunate news. Speaker manufacturers' recommended amplifier power is one of the most meaningless "specifications", if not the most. There is no standard on how a manufacturer comes up with these numbers (and they don't explain how the numbers are measured or determined), so across different manufacturers, you are definitely not comparing apples to apples. You also have no idea what those numbers really mean. For example, if it is the maximum rated power, does it mean if the power is exceeded, the speakers will be permanently damaged? If it is, what is the duration? 1 microsecond or 1 second or 1 minute or indefinitely (i.e. the speaker can be played at the rated power indefinitely)? And at what frequency or mix of frequencies? We know that the tweeter can handle a lot less power than the woofer, so the power handling capacity of a speaker is frequency dependent. Some speakers can impress at first listen with airiness that might give the impression of detail and space. This is often the result of a too-bright treble balance. Triangle plays a different game here. Detail isn’t forced on the listener. It’s there but the overall balance is one of musical wholeness, as opposed to dissection of music into its component parts.
