Talamantes, accompanied by her daughters, Mrs. M. D. O'Farrell and Miss Fay Talamantes, left yesterday for a two weeks' stay at Bungalow Inn, in Laurel canyon" It is NOT moralizing. It is a super fun read! It is NOT a dry lecture about the dangers of drug addiction - read it because it is fun! That it has a 'message' is a bonus - the book itself is a masterpiece! Danny Sugerman (1995). Wonderland Avenue: Tales of Glamour and Excess. Little, Brown and Company. ISBN 0316773549.

At around 3:00 AM, an unknown number of unidentified men gain access to the house where Launius, Deverell, Miller, and Barbara were. They bludgeoned the four to death with the weapons used by the killers believed to be hammers and metal pipes. John befriended a group of people including a man named Billy Deverell. Deverell was a 44-year old drug dealer and low-level thief who lived at 8763 Wonderland Avenue in the Laurel Canyon area of L.A. with his girlfriend, Joy Miller. Joy was 46, a divorcee who had once been married to a high-priced attorney but after medical issues (including surviving breast cancer) she became addicted to heroin. The murders of the Wonderland victims were so gruesome that the scene was messy with the blood and their insides. Barbara Richardson was found murdered in the living room where she was sleeping on the couch and the others were upstairs. Laurel Canyon Association: 20th Century Canyon History". In the book, Sugerman recounts his life, beginning with his childhood in Beverly Hills that was pleasant until his father filed for divorce from his mother. Sugerman asserts that this event, as well as the resulting difficult relationships he had with his father and stepfather, set the stage for his later self-destructive addictions and behavior. The stepfather detested the sight of a man or adolescent boy with long hair. It's written from the hip, talky, autobiography, edgy (for the early 90's), and if you've just read Scar Tissue, then you gotta read this.

If anyone is thinking of doing heroine or becoming a junkie, read this book first...it will scare you straight.Police were so overwhelmed by the amount of blood at the crime scene that they decided to videotape it (remember that video cameras were relatively new at the time.) The video would eventually be used during the trial, marking the first time in American history that video was used as evidence in a criminal trial. The actual police footage with narration can be seen as an extra feature on the DVD release of Wonderland starring Val Kilmer. Canyon News – Laurel Canyon House Zappa Used to Live in". Wonderland (2003), a crime- drama film about the Wonderland murders, was directed by James Cox and stars Val Kilmer (as John Holmes), Kate Bosworth (as Dawn Schiller), Dylan McDermott (as David Lind), Carrie Fisher (as Sally Hansen), Josh Lucas (as Ron Launius), Christina Applegate (as Susan Launius), Lisa Kudrow (as Sharon Holmes), Tim Blake Nelson (as Billy Deverell), Janeane Garofalo (as Joy Miller), and Eric Bogosian (as Eddie Nash) [20]

Look, I couldn't care any less about Jim Morrison or The Doors. I don't find anything about him or the band appealing. But EVERYTHING about Morrison and the band spoke to pre-teen Danny Sugerman. The Doors may mean nothing to me, but passionate little weirdo kids that take a nerd-level interest in something make me resent being born with a working range of emotions.Stewart, Robert (April 14, 1988). "Holmes' Confession in Bathtub: Told Wife of Role in 4 Murders". Los Angeles Times . Retrieved May 20, 2014. Twelve years after the gruesome and tragic Tate-LaBianca Murders at 10050 Cielo Drive and 3311 Waverly, another brutal slaying occurred in Los Angeles. In the small hours of July 1st 1981, four people were murdered at a house located at 8763 Wonderland Avenue. Situated in Laurel Canyon, a Hollywood Hills neighbourhood where, a coterie of musicians and creatives had called home during the 1960s, the area was not exactly the rough part of town. However, by the late 1970s, counterculture had given way to criminal activity, largely due to the residents of one particular house. In this den of crime and narcotics, a group of individuals known as the Wonderland Gang called home. The group’s reputation as the neighbourhood drug distributors became overshadowed on that July night, when the LAPD arrived at the house to find the most horrific crime scene they had ever encountered. The massacre gained infamy, not only for the gruesome events but for the names associated with the murders. One was Los Angeles nightclub promoter Eddie Nash, and the other was former porn star John Holmes. Very entertaining, but also bloviating and if not fabricated at points then at least exaggerated. However, this book is very, very, very good at making you never want to try heroin.
