If diarrhoea persists unremittingly for longer than 36 hours the patient should be reassessed by the physician.

To start with you will give the baby Dioralyte solution instead of feeds over the course of the day. The volume of Dioralyte solution that the doctor will usually recommend you give over 24 hours is one to one and a half times the volume of fluid the baby would usually drink in 24 hours. Always follow the instructions given by your doctor. Dioralyte can be taken by most people, including women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, elderly people, children and babies. However, it's not suitable for: If refrigerated the solution may be stored for up to 24 hours, otherwise any solution remaining one hour after reconstitution should be discarded. If nausea and vomiting are present with the diarrhoea, small but frequent amounts should be drunk at first.

Severe dehydration may need to be corrected by parenteral fluids initially, followed by oral maintenance if indicated. If the loss of fluid in the diarrhoea is excessive, medical advice should be sought. Diarrhoea should be treated under medical advice in some situations. It's important to see your doctor if you or your child: Dissolve contents of one Dioralyte sachet in 200ml (approximately 7 fluid ounces) of drinking water.

For infants and where drinking water is not available, the water should be freshly boiled then cooled.Use fresh drinking water for adults and children over 1 year old. Iffresh water is not available, use water which has been freshly boiled and cooled It's best not to eat in the early stages of diarrhoea. After 24 to 48 hours, as the diarrhoea improves, you can start to gradually re-introduce small amounts of food. For reasons of hygiene and safety, personal grooming products, cosmetics or items of intimate clothing cannot be returned.

Do not take this medicine if any of the above apply to you. If.you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Dioralyte.This medicine contains glucose, which is a type of sugar. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, talk to your doctor before taking. this medicine. If you are breast feeding, continue to feed normally. Your baby may need less breast milk so you may need to express some of your milk Get medical advice from your doctor when treating a baby. Your doctor will work out how much to give your baby based on their body weight. When vomiting is present with the diarrhoea, it is recommended that small amounts be taken frequently. Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has issued a medicine supply notification for Dioralyte® oral rehydration sachets.
